It's about time I found a good homemade country fried steak. Before today, the only place I could get a good one was at IHOP.
As a night shift medical staff worker, I was hungry, exhausted, and finially done with my long work week. Of all things, the last thing I wanted to do was take care of some car maintenance. I figured I had a chance to try a new breakfast place. I love breakfast-so I googled "breakfast," and Morris Family restaurant was one of the ones that showed up.
The atmosphere was inviting and comforting. Staff were kind, with a nice lady welcoming everyone. I had the classic, country fried steak and eggs, but this one comes with the choice of hashrowns or home fries and toast. I chose hashrbowns, and then they asked if I wanted bell peppers and onions. I was surprised that's normally not an option with a dish like this, but it definitely added a nice flavor to the classic hashbrowns.
The country fried steak was made perfectly. The gravy definitely made in-house tasted so good, and the amount of it on the steak was very generous, just the way it should be served.
I unexpectedly came across a hidden gem, and I recommend everyone-specially breakfast lovers-come and have a taste of Morris Family restaurant. I most definitely plan to come back when I'm...
Read moreEnded up in the Central Columbia area and stumbled across Morris Family Restaurant, and stopped in for lunch. I was immediately reminded of the "non-chain" family style places that used to be very common back in the '70's and '80's.
The staff was very laid back and friendly, as one would expect in a place that likely relies on the "locals" for the bulk of their business. Morris's also has a catering business, and the food kind of had that feel to it...good, decent portions, but not something that I would say made it stand out from anywhere else in particular.
The prices were quite reasonable, and they have a large selection on the menu...something for everyone. For someone or a family passing through looking for something more than fast food without breaking the bank, it's definitely an option. Service was fairly quick too, so it was nice not having to wait long for our food.
My only reason for 4 stars is really because overall, the place could use a little updating and sprucing up a bit, but I do understand after the past few years with how things were with the pandemic, just staying in business...
Read moreNot enjoyable this time! I ordered the Morris Country Scrambler which is my favorite breakfast item on the menu. My wife ordered the Meat Lover's omelette with onions, mushrooms, and spinach. First thing is that the scrambler was a much smaller portion that at times previous. About 3 bites in, I started to crunch into an eggshell, which I understand can happen. However, in trying to continue to eat it, more and more eggshells started to appear and these were even larger size. So I couldn't continue to eat it. My wife's omelette didn't have the onions or spinach she requested. However, the waitstaff were nice and polite, and the coffee was very good. At least they didn't end up charging me for my Scrambler. So it wasn't a totally bad experience, but it will prevent me from ever eating at that...
