The atmosphere is wonderful. Doesn't look like much when you walk in, but when you get to one of the dining rooms, it's warm and cozy. I don't typically care for the exposed HVAC system, but I do prefer it to covering what appears to be the original carved/molded ceiling work with a drop ceiling.
Our server was lovely. She was friendly and personable. She was busy but it didn't appear to bother her. Would enjoy having her again.
The food is very tasty. Mom ordered the Beef Ravioli with the Mushroom Meatless Sauce, I ordered the Cheese Ravioli with the Mushroom Meat Sauce, and because they don't serve appetizers, we both ordered the Side House Salad. The ravioli was not cooked long enough for my preference, though it's not an issue to deduct stars. I have a thing about texture in food. That's a me thing. The flavors were all there though, very tasty. And let say the garlic bread is amazing. You get what can only be described as a slab, not a piece. It has just the right amount of garlic butter that it's moist with crunchy edges, but not so much that it oozes out as you take a bite or runs down your arm and chin. Perfect. The way they do portions is great. We both ordered the lunch portion which is described as being a half versus a full portion that you get at the a la carte or dinner level. This was the perfect amount of food. Well, with the slab of bread you get with the salad, and the slab you get with dinner it was little too much. But the bread was so good I had to eat it all. Mom only ate one of her slabs and we both refused to take the other home. On the way to drop her off she said she didn't want to take because she'd just over-stuff herself eating it shortly after she got home, and I said that's pretty much the same reason I didn't take it, because I'd probably eat it in my car from her house to mine. It is really, really good.
I saw a pizza come out to a table while we were finishing up it had the THINNEST crust. My favorite. Will definitely go ack to to...
Read moreMy second visit and likely my last. Upon arrival 15 minutes before a reservation for 10 in the bar area, when made aware just one person sat at/was seated at the wrong table the wait staff didn't have the ability to tell the person to move. They quickly apologized and when seated a manager came, apologized and said "something would be done" for the inconvenience. Having already paid $5 for 2 Cokes at the bar, a single pizza for 2 was $25 plus a $5 gratuity for a server working hard and not at fault - $35 for pizza & 2 soft drinks an outrageous sum. Being one of many authentic Italian restaurants in SE WI. DeRango's, Wells Bro's, Infusinos all 3-4 generation restaurants with pizza as good or better in compable atmosphere at easily 25-35% lower price makes Barbiere a poor choice for pizza. For Lasagna, Mama Mia's or Marty's in West Allis both tremendous quality and servings at MUCH lower prices.
Summary: I don't remember prices so high since last vist - the place was packed then but not near capacity on prime weekend hours this visit Messed-up Res, apology w/false promise, decent pizza WAY over-priced.
Only a decent pizza saved this from being a One Star Review. I'd expected at least to...
Read moreNew to SM and the only other pizza we have tried in town is DeRangos which has not disappointed so far. Went in around 530pm on a cold wintry Thursday evening. Nobody in the restaurant, but we were seated ALL THE WAY in the back which was odd. And the server walked like 12ft ahead of us and just threw the menus on the table and kept walking away. And it took some time for someone to come by and take our order. Staff doesn't seem thrilled to be there. We ordered a pizza, anti pasto salad and the garlic bread. Pizza was just okay in flavor and the underneath crust was not very crispy. If you like garlic bread soaked in butter, which some people do, it's just not my style. My partner loved the garlic bread. Anti Pasto salad was your basic anti pasto salad lacking in tomatoes and meats. Disappointing that when it comes to music/atmosphere, they have a radio station on vs Pandora, or some kind of streaming service with 0 commercials. Not sure why they don't open the bar side during the week. Much more inviting place to sit and dine especially when you add some great music to...
