China Chef — Restaurant in South Milwaukee

This is the best Chinese food ever! I have been ordering or eating in on a weekly basis since they opened at their first location in South Milwaukee. When they moved up the street to their new location, I followed. They remodeled the inside because it used to be a local grocery store and the inside is not only beautiful but very tranquil. They start filling their seats around 7pm on the weekends and stay busy until they close. When we had our first Chinese exchange student, he was missing home and they made a point to speak to him and one person there offered to befrind him. They are very flexable with their menu items and our exchange student said he wanted something like he would get at home so they just had him choose the meat and they did the rest. Whatever it was, it was phenomenal. Veggies are always crisp but cooked through and i have never ordered anything that I didnt like. Whether you eat in, take out, or have delivered, you always get it fresh and hot. One thing I learned is they always say their delivery time is 45 minutes, but is usually at my door within 20. The only downfall is that they close before 10pm even on weekends. The portions are pretty large, so when ordering a dinner, a small can easily feed a large and hungry man. Whenever I order, i end up with enough rice and the main dish to make 3 complete meals for me. We are very lucky to have such a great restaurant in our small town. They could easily open up downtown and charge more. That being said, I hope they never move out...

We ate here for lunch buffet. I first smelt a faul smell coming from the food in the buffet. Didn't know where it was coming from. When I got my food I took a bite out of the beef and it tasted really bad and spit it out. Then I took a look at the broccoli and smelt it. It smelt spoiled and very old. I called the server over and let her smell it she quickly took my plate away to the kitchen to discard it and told me they brought out fresh food and get a fresh one. When it came time to pay. I told her I shouldn't have to pay for my share cause you are serving bad food to customers. I told her to tell the manager. She told the manager in Chinese. They talked for a while with the owner and came back to our table and try to tell me their food is fresh and we have to pay. They argued with me and my husband for awhile getting loud in front of other customers. I told them I will never come back again ever and she said good. What kind of customer service is that? I never received such bad customer service in my life. Chinese people do not care about what they are serving. They don't care about food safety regulations do not follow the rules. Service was great. Friendly staff. Attentive.

Food was amazing. Great flavor. Very large portions at great prices. Dishes that are served with white rice come as a bowl of rice for the table to share, and then a small serving platter of your entre. You receive an empty plate to prepare your meal yourself, and let me tell you, there is so much on the platter I have two additional meals. I had Crab Rangoons and then the Beef with Broccoli. Good flavor. I've ordered these at other places and found them to be very bland. Not here. Also ordered was the Egg Foo Young, Seafood Medley, and the Crispy Duck. Everyone enjoyed their meals and all took home leftovers for another day.
