The food and atmosphere were good but the SERVICE was very poor. My wife and I came from Connecticut to buy food from this restaurant and we told them to package the Atieke separately in a container because we don't want the Atieke to touch the fish. Not everybody wants food touching the other and when we told the lady that served the food the way we wanted it packaged, she told us they don't do it that way. What food merchant anywhere does not comply with the way the customers want their foods packaged to go? And they even forgot to put the maggi seasoning that goes with the Atieke. Why would you even pressed the sauce containers deep inside the Atieke? Sauce containers touched without wearing gloves? That is unsanitary and ridiculous. Ask customers how they want their foods packaged to go and not you packaging the food the way you want to. For the second food we bought which was fufu & egusi, we asked them for assorted meat and fish but they gave us only dry meat with no fish. Please if you want to order to go, you had better open up the bag and check before you pay and left for your house. For us, I ain't stepping in there again. The worst service rendered in any Ghanaian restaurant I've...
Read moreThe food presentation was nice, but the flavor wasn't there. The only thing that had flavor was the fried fish and the green pepper that came with the Acheke. The fried plantains were also good, but that's because they were really ripped. That's it.
As someone who has lived in Ghana and Ivory Coast, I know how these foods should taste like. Unfortunately, the food I ordered didn't taste good.
The beans, the jollof rice, the okra soup, and Acheke all had no flavor. Whoever makes the food doesn't know how to cook, I'm sorry, but I'm known to be blunt and don't sugarcoat.
Maybe the chef at this restaurant should try food from other Ghanaian restaurant and compare it to what He/she cooks and be honest with themselves.
Nobody likes to be criticized, but if you take criticism and improve, you will go a long way.
I recommend Asante's Restaurant in Teaneck, and my second pick so far will be 5 loaves in Somerset.
Will not order from this place again unless...
Read moreThis was my first time my partner and I tried Nigerian food, and it was fantastic!
We tried the very customary Fufu and Goat Egusi, and we’ll be back for more Nigerian food.
The egusi was hearty, and very nuanced, with the flavors pleasantly evolving on the palate. I feel like there was a good balance of sweet, fat, acidity, salt, and umami. There were notes of lemongrass, maybe a hint of ginger, it’s hard to describe. I’ve never quite had anything like it. The goat fell right off the bone.
The service was wholesome and seems to be a family enterprise which should be supported. It’s a touch pricey but I’m sure that’s because some of the ingredients need to be imported, and the serving size was fair for the price (comfortably fed 2 athletic men).
The ambiance was modest, but the food is what counts.
I’ll have to return to try their...
