Perfect name for this restaurant. I found it on my GPS after being at IAAS for a marvelous facial. Got to the address and everything looked empty. Went inside the main entrance and took the elevator to the lower level. Went outside, looked around and found the entrance to the Rathskeller. Now realizing that had I driven to the back of 88 Main Street South, it would have been much easier to find. Obviously the locals know where to park. Inside is pleasantly darkly lit with a cozy feeling. I ordered the Raspberry Chicken Salad with raspberry vinaigrette. It was served with mixed greens, almonds, and dried apricots. This was very tasty, and the chicken was moist. I had a homemade raspberry bar served with vanilla ice cream. A plate of sample dessert choices is shown; there is no printed dessert menu as the items are freshly made and change. Along with my meal, I ordered an Old Saybrook Cosmopolitan made with cranberry juice. Everything was delicious. The dessert was a little pricey, but worth it for the freshness and taste. Guess I was having a raspberry and cranberry day! I will be suggesting the Rathskeller...
Read moreFood price / quality (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is a basement pub. A little tricky to find, but worth looking for. They offer a large bar surrounded by several high-tops, a friendly local crowd, Nascar and football. This was our first visit to this restaurant. This is a great place to come for some drinks and a sandwich. A limited, but well chosen draught list is available. We had the pleasure of being served by "Kate" at the bar, who appeared to effortlessly serve a full bar and all diners in the restaurant, without missing a step. I had the Cuban sandwich with potato salad. They had no problem substituting a ciabotta roll for a baguette. The sandwich was prepared nicely, served hot, and the meats were fresh and tender, and was reasonably priced. The potato salad was German style. The wife had a garden salad, which consisted of high quality greens and your typical raw veggies, and was also very reasonably priced. I had two IPA's and the wife had two Pinots, and the bill was under $50. Unusual in today's market. I would certainly recommend...
Read moreStopped in for some late-night wings and a drink. Our waitress was delightful but the wings I ordered were God awful.
I ordered 20 wings 10 garlic-parm and 10 naked all extra crispy and asked for all flats.
The waitress comes back and says sorry we will have to do a mix of both flats and drums as we only have 20 wings left accordingtothe chef. So I said fine no worries if that's what you have that's what you have. The wings, come out and they look like they have been at the bottom of the box all weird looking, small, no meat, and just looked really unediable, and the garlic-parm had zero flavor. These had to be the number one worst wings of all time.
I maybe had 6 out of the 20 and couldn't stomach them anymore. As I'm asking for the check here is the best part more orders of wings were being brought out to the bar after they just told me I had the last 20 ordered.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone for wings and I wouldn't even give the wings to my dogs that's how bad they are.
