Got breakfast burritos, then came back later for brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs, with beans, potato salad and Mac & cheese on the side.
Burritos were excellent - plenty of meat, no overcooked eggs, enormous. These are no morning dalliance; these are burritos that'll stick with you all day long.
Brisket was... Odd. I have no idea what happened with the brisket. The best description I could come up with - and I tried several approaches - is the texture of meat that has been refrigerated and then revived in a steam tray, a smokey version of the "Italian beef" of Chicago fame. It wasn't tough, or dry exactly... But there is certainly a dryness, amidst the condensate. Heavy on the ground pepper. Honestly don't know what to say here, a very strange meat.
Pulled pork was good. Solid middle of the road pulled pork: tender, smokey, juicy from displaced collagen moreso than fat. Good on its own, excellent addition to a sandwich or tortilla. Could have used a bit more crust IMHO, but this comes down to personal preference.
The ribs were the star of the show for this takeout order - each the consistency of a good ripe peach, not "fall of the bone" but "bite and comes clean from the pit". Juicy and smokey, I had to force myself to stop eating long enough to type this review.
Of the sides, the beans were a big hit, full of smoke and savory goodness. Could eat a meal of just beans and be happy. Potato salad is solid, little bit of smoke and no off flavors, went great with pulled pork and would be just as much at home with some cabbage or sauerbraten. Mac & cheese tends to be a very personal thing; this wasn't my favorite side, but I can't point to anything wrong with it - just didn't seem to capture the smokey flavor of the place the way the potato salad or especially...
Read moreBest pork belly tacos I've ever had! We walked in on a 97 degree day and enjoyed the rush of sweet air conditioning - had a cold brew and delicious tacos. Spoke with kind, knowledgeable staff about the "goings on" around Hillyard. The recent road construction west of Market (Haven) changed Market back to a 2 way traffic street with a small town USA feel that made wandering around the Hillyard shops and taverns seem like someplace out of a Stephen King novel. Highly recommend Jones BBQ -- great eats! I don't normally ooh & ahh about the facilities in a restaurant, but the bathroom was newly renovated and sparkling clean! Shout out to Jose our awesome...
Read moreI stopped by to get some take out and got the Carne Asada Street Tacos and the Birria Loaded Nachos and everything was so delicious! The nachos had a little bit of everything for each chip, the meat was perfectly tender with great flavor. The tacos came with a lime for each one which was awesome and the meat had a great flavor as well. We will definitely be going...
