I visited the new Knights Diner a few weeks ago because I saw it had reopened with new owners. I went in with an open mind because I loved the old Knights so I had high hopes.
The Good: -The wait staff was wonderful and friendly. -The updated design of the interior is a really good design and holds true to the original theme so the nostalgia was wonderful. Everything was clean and well-preserved to customers.
The Other: First, I have to share that I was a long time patron and lover of the original owners, the nostalgia, and the food so my opinion is somewhat biased towards the old.
So here goes... I saw the owner moving around the grill but he only spoke to one customer, it would have been nice to have a conversation with the new owner. This, of course, stems from my interactions with the former owners.
The food: I was definitely expecting more from the actual food. In terms of food quality, the food was outstanding. The only disappointment I had in the food was that it's breakfast that you can get at any other breakfast spot in Spokane, nothing special. This is a stark contrast to the old Knights, most everything was homemade, hand prepped, and unique... everything from the pancakes to the special sauce used to have some sort of unique, hand made (and delicious), twist on it, this just doesn't seem to be the case now.
Prices: prices seem fair, no complaints there but it is apparent that some costs were spared in food prep (packaged hashbrowns for example) and we would have happily paid more for hand-prepped ingredients.
All things considered of you're on the mood to have breakfast in a train it's worth the trip but it won't continue to hold a spot in my weekly...

Read moreI'm a sucker for a good breakfast in an old train car. Fortunately (and oddly) Spokane has a few options to choose from - Franks and Knights. Before you go to Knights, there are a couple things that are good to know. There are no booths here like there are at Franks, so you'll be sitting bar style. There are probably 20-25 spots, so seating can be pretty limited.
I did not know about the lack of tables and went with a group of 7 (plus 2 babies in car seats). There happened to be enough room for our entire group, but you can't really talk to everyone since you're sitting bar style. The food is prepared right in front of you on a large griddle. The food was pretty good, but it wasn't anything special. I had the biscuits and gravy, which is my standard diner fare. Our server was very nice and did a solid job serving our group.
Its worth a stop if you've never been here, but I personally don't think it's the best train car breakfast in town...and I definitely don't think this is the best...
