EDIT: I appreciate the response from the store manager and the action taken to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Kudos to Wake Up Call! ORIGINAL POST: First off, I want to say I appreciate and admire Wake Up Call’s presence in the community. Also, very rarely do I leave a negative review. However, I feel like I need to mention one quick thing. On Oct. 12, 2024, we attended the Autumn on the Ave event in the Union District. Wake Up Call Cafe was a participating business and offered “balloon darts” as its community engagement activity. I took my children into the store so they could participate. We waited in line and when the barista finally got to us and I said that my kids wanted to each take their turn with the balloon darts, she said I needed to make a purchase. I humbly responded that it was just my kids who wanted to participate and that there was nothing on the menu that interested us. She again rebuffed us and then confirmed with another employee—who I assume was the manager—that we had to buy something to play. This other employee said “yeah” without even looking at us. From the perspective of Wake Up Call, I do understand their viewpoint to a degree. But on the marketing for the Autumn on the Ave event, it said nothing at all about making a purchase to participate. All the other businesses we visited were really welcoming and allowed us to participate in their promotions/games/giveaways without making a purchase. In my opinion, I think the employee could have just allowed my 7-year-old and 4-year-old to play the game. If offering balloon darts was simply a tactic to get more business, let me say this: I would have been much more prone to make a purchase with good customer service and kindness to my kids (perhaps not on this day but at least down the road) as opposed to the shakedown to buy something before they could participate. Again, I appreciate Wake Up Call but I think they missed the mark in this situation.

Great coffee experience! Friendly, knowledgeable barista. Lots of syrup options. Peanut butter as an option! My wife got a Double Decker Mocha (comes with peanut butter). Wow! I got an americano with caramel syrup. Daughter got a hot chocolate. They also have local beer on tap. Awesome looking merch. Clean restaurant and restrooms!

Love wake up call never disappointed until today when I ordered delivery...coffee and a bagel with cream cheese not only did i not get my cream cheese but i even payed extra for an EXTRA cream cheese and got neither wth! People order deliver for a reason if i had the time to go to the shop while I'm working i would have their solution was for me to waste more money and come down to the store to get the cream cheese i already payed for plus the insane delivery fees i payed just so I could have coffee at work i don't understand the logic no I'll credit you no I'll make it up in some way the only solution was for me to come in. in what dimension does that make sense? i cannot leave work! Hense the delivery! Not to mention the disabled people who get screwed out of tons of money for this exact problem all the time and literally can't physically do anything about it but just take the hit society figure this out and solve this issue!!! Pay attention to orders get them right or actually make it right when you...

Whenever I travel I always try and go to local coffee shops, and this one, I don't what it was about it but it sparked my interest. So we went, and it was amazing, I have never had a double hot chocolate ever(chocolate milk with extra chocolate) and it was delicious! The breakfast sandwich I got(sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel) was sooo good. Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be going back. Service was excellent, everyone was very friendly (even though we were tourists)....
