Grilled Cravings & Quality Ice Cream — Restaurant in St. Joseph

We biked to the Grilled Cravings, a short hop from the Lake Wobegon trail. I was with four of my grandchildren. We had hot dogs, fries and single scoop ice cream cones. The grandkids enjoyed the food and so did I. I especially appreciated the fact that it was not 'fast' food. You order, THEN they make it, so you have to wait for your order. This is actually how food should be prepared unlike the fast food establishments where the burger you ordered was made too long ago, and was sitting under hot lights. Ugh. The staff here were very helpful and attentive, but they were busy doing orders so, were not standing around looking for something to do. A bonus is they have three pinball machines that you can play for free. This kept the kids busy while we waited. They also have several outdoor spaces including a couple of picnic tables under shade trees, and other tables on their patio by the order window. They also do drive up but I don't have any idea how that works but I imagine you might shorten you wait by ordering online. Ordered a Crispy Chicken, hamburger, gyro, and quesadilla. Crispy Chicken was an undercooked Sysco ground chicken patty that was not crispy or cooked properly. Hamburger tasted like the soy burgers we had in high school 20 years ago. Terrible. Old bread for the gyro. 2 orders of French fries that tasted like they were sitting out for hours. Oh and that was almost $50. But they did have free pinball that didn't actually do anything. What a joke. #neveragain

Update - see owners reply to honest review. We ate the food over at millstream park. I'm not lying about the chunks of gristle in my chicken, or the French fries. If they were fresh you didn't cook them correctly. Also you advertise fresh food but it's a food service, there's a difference. You're right about the pinball machine, that is nice - the one I saw them playing must have had an issue that day, because it didn't actually work. Business owners don't usually attack a negative review either. I had a very negative experience and am not coming...

We really enjoyed their made to order sandwiches, burgers, & hot dogs! It is a great place to sit and enjoy a beautiful day while waiting for your meal or some ice cream! We tried a 'Chicago' style hot dog, a giant double hamburger, & ham & cheese sliders along with fries and cheese curds. All were delicious and had sauces made there as well. This place has a drive through and walk-up order window along with outdoor seating and recently added indoor seating. It both has the feel of food truck innovation in their menu as well as a great old fashioned walk up mom & pop burger/ice cream spot. Because it is made to order don't expect it to be as fast as McDonald's. Personally, we thought it was worth any wait! It is also super close to the highway so it is an easy spot to check out if passing by this area off I94 or highway 75. Prices are good here too for...
