Do not miss out on this amazing culinary and dining experience in St Joseph, Minnesota. I finally made it here with a group of 5 and we were absolutely blown away! The ambiance and decor was cozy, comfortable and very spacious. The kitchen window opens up in the middle of the restaurant and invites you to see what everyone is up to. They have a big, full bar with lots of seating and very economical happy hour specials and delicious cocktails. We were lucky enough to sit in a cute corner booth with access to the happy hour and dinner menus. We started off with delicious fresh oysters with all the goodies. The brussel sprouts were savory, salty, sweet with a little kick. The simple salad was just that, but in the best way possible. The freshest lettuces with a simple yet delicious, vinaigrette dressing, it was so light and enjoyable. Our main courses were to die for. The BBQ shrimp had a few big, juicy shrimp in a unique, rich sauce with hints of ginger and floral notes. The half chicken was served on the bone with some sauce, a little smokey, very tender! The onion soup was delicious, made the way it should be with Gruyere cheese. The crab cakes were fantastic, the stand out there was the homemade remoulade sauce, I wanted to put it on everything! Do not skip the homemade corn bread with honey butter smothered on top, yum! I saved my 2 favorites for last. The Shrimp Jambalaya was hands down the best I've ever had. The flavors were so bright and fresh, served with tasty shrimp and fluffy jasmine rice. And ... The winner of the night... The pot roast.... I put my spoon on top of the meat and gravity melted it right through to the plate. It was the most tender beef I've ever had, on top of a simple, decadent potato puree, with a mild, delicious horseradish sauce on top. Although we were all pleasantly full, we couldn't resist the decadent desserts. My goodness... Beinets we're warm, fresh, sweet and OH SO GOOD. I don't even like key lime pie but this was so good I couldn't stop serving myself more and more teeny, tiny slivers to keep the flavor in my mouth. Grandma Mackbee's bread pudding... Just do it! Rich but balanced, nutty and sweet, freshly warm with cold ice cream on top... Our server Kate was kind, knowledgeable and made us all feel very comfortable! Chefs Mateo and Erin have created such an amazing culinary haven where everything is done well. I couldn't say a critical thing if I tried!...
Read moreToday was my 2nd visit to Krewe. The 1st time it was decent. My grandma and I split hushpuppies and brussels sprouts and we enjoyed both, but neither was anything too exciting. Today my friend and I were unfortunately extremely disappointed from almost start to finish. They were well-staffed and service was friendly although my water was empty for a while (even though there were more people working than customers) and our food order wasn’t taken until we got our cocktails, which took quite a while. My drink was too spicy and smelled/tasted like tequila even though it was a rum drink (it was a fire breathing dragon); I could have handled the spice, but hate tequila. My friend’s drink was good though, it was a whisky apricot drink of some kind. My fried green tomatoes were listed as a salad and were supposed to come with greens (which ended up being parsley and a type of chimichurri sauce, no lettuce). They were way too salty, but otherwise I enjoyed them. Not enough food for $15 with 3 slices of tomatoes. My friend’s shrimp po boy was alright, but a mess that she had to keep putting back together. Her chips were the worst part… literally Lays potato chips with paprika on them. What a joke for $15 a plate. I didn’t even halfway finish my spicy drink and the waitress never mentioned it. And that’s fine. But I won’t be back and my friend won’t either. Especially considering they didn’t have at least two of the drinks prepared to serve yet, it would have gone a long way to notice that I wasn’t enjoying my drink and offer me another option. Very disappointing as I love unique food in this area. I am kind of disappointed I didn’t remember dessert and wasn’t offered it as I had really wanted to try their beignets, I’ve been craving those since I had them at Cafe du Monde in NOLA a...
Read moreI really hate to give this review, because I had great expectations for Krewe Restaurant and waited forever for this restaurant to open. The first time I had Krewe was before the physical restaurant even opened. They served food for Mardi Gras at their neighbors location and it was really good. Unfortunately that is the only good experience I've had with Krewe. The second time I had Krewe it was takeout. Had the BBQ shrimp and some other food. The proportion size I felt was small for the price and the flavor was just not what I expected. I want real New Orleans style food, give me the flavors and spice. I thought I would give the restaurant another chance being we had takeout and takeout isn't always as good as being able to dine-in. It was decided we would try going to the restaurant for cocktails after our wedding to celebrate. What a mistake. Yes, it was the night before Halloween, but we had a reservation and so I had expected much more. First the service was so slow. I only got asked what I wanted to drink once and I wasn't ready to order. The waiter never came back and asked me for my order. Our party of ten didn't really get to sit together. It was loud in the restaurant so we couldn't hear each other unless we were right across from one another. Second only serving a specialty menu for the holiday I feel was a huge mistake on their end. The special drink menu was so overpriced. And the staff refused to make a cocktail off the normal drink menu. Did I mention they were also really slow... Not sure if some of the staff are just so inexperienced or what. Needless to say most of us had one drink and I was ready to move on to another place with much better service. Just...
