This review is about 17 years overdue, but better late than never, right? Haha! Well, I love Milo’s. I lived on The Hill for about 10 years, so I’ve had the most complete experience you could expect to get from The Hill, and Milo’s is still one of my most favorite places to bring friends and loved ones to for awesome service and my favorite burger and fries. One of the owners is an old neighbor of mine, and another I know from planting myself at the bar on many occasions. Both are really great guys who have always been nothing but kind to me.
I noticed someone mention that management at Milo’s was in a bad mood during their visit in the summer of 2021, and I just want to say: imagine running a business during a pandemic. Especially, imagine being in food service, keeping a restaurant and/or bar alive during a time when you’re not allowed to have customers, but then you are, but they have to stay x amount of feet apart, then add plexiglass walls separating tables, and the list goes on…we’ve all been in a bad mood since 2020. I hope everyone can find grace and patience to give themselves and others as we move away from such a terrible time. I also want to say, I saw zero bad moods on Saturday, in spite of how busy it was, and our waitress was just sweet as pie, which has always been my experience.
I was back at Milo’s this past Saturday for a long overdue visit. I brought my hubby and little one, who is still working on warming up to the restaurant experience thanks to the pandemic. After years of not having my favorite burger and fries, I was thrilled to find them tasting just as delicious as I left them. My little one is a French fry connoisseur, and I think those yummy seasoned fries have a new fan for sure. Hubby had a salsiccia sandwich, which he raved about, and I definitely recommend if you don’t want a burger.
The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and everyone is friendly, even to people who aren’t regulars. I must confess that in 17 years of living in St. Louis, I’ve never once played bocce, but it’s fun to watch, and I enjoy a night on the patio watching everyone having a great time playing. One day, I’ll give it a try, and you should too!
I recommend taking a stroll around the neighborhood if you visit during the day, and don’t forget that a delicious sweet treat is right across the street at...
Read moreWhen I travel to a city, I try to visit the local's favorite spots. Milo's, is on The Hill, where the Italian Americans makes up the majority population, is one of those rare places where locals hang out shoulder to shoulder with city visitors. When you walk in the door you say to yourself , " What do people see that makes this place so special". Well keep on walking and head out the back door and voila', a beer garden with bocce ball courts. If you arrive before 6 pm you can try your hand at a game. However, there is league play Monday-Thursday after 6pm, but watching the teams play is quite fun!
The food is not your typical bar food because most St Louis taverns serve many homemade items such as St Louis style pizza, pork steaks, toasted ravioli, bratwurst and salsiccia, an Italian type of sausage. My favorite is the braut burger!
A must when visiting...
Read moreHad a party of 7, with three little ones. Got there at 5:30pm. Everything was going great, the kids got their food pretty quickly but the hours passed and still NO food for the adults, people eating and going and the waitress telling us our food would be out soon. Finally come 7:30pm and the waitress comes out and tells us she's sorry and will comp our food that the kitchen is backed up. So ok, we have a screaming infant at this point so we have to take it to go. Then the main manager comes out and says we will comp your pizza and soft drinks LOL! Seriously? Just the pizza?? Our bill is $170? and they messed up the order anyway so at this point we're tired, starving, have a screaming baby and to tired to argue. Will NEVER go back! Unbelievable that they thought comping a freaking pizza and soft drinks was the appropriate action for this...
