A Slice of Confusion at Little Maria's Pizza & Subs

Welcome to Little Maria's Pizza & Subs in Verona, VA, where the menu reads like a culinary dare! I decided to channel my inner adventurous eater and ordered the infamous "Pizza Burger." Now, I know what you’re thinking: who goes to a pizza place for a burger? But this was no ordinary burger; it was a burger dressed up like it was ready for a night out on the town!

Toppings Galore! The toppings were the real MVPs of this dish. Picture this: pepperoni, gooey cheese, and all the pizza vibes you could ask for—like an Italian party on top of a burger! They were well done, and I’d even say they were the life of the party. The bun? Solid choice! It held everything together like a good friend who doesn’t let you fall flat on your face after too many drinks.

The Patty: A Culinary Mystery But then we come to the patty. Oh boy, if that burger was a movie, it would be a low-budget horror flick titled “The Dreaded Hockey Puck.” Seriously, this thing was overcooked to the point where I half-expected it to start bouncing around the plate. Flavorless and gray, it was like someone had taken all the joy out of beef and replaced it with… well, nothing. It’s a shame that the star of the show turned out to be more of a supporting actor who forgot their lines!

Fries That Steal the Spotlight Now let’s talk about my sidekick: the loaded fries. These little golden nuggets were the best part of my meal—crispy, cheesy, and topped with bacon like they were trying to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Snack. I had to eat them with a fork because they were so loaded that they practically needed their own zip code! Each bite was a flavor explosion that made me forget all about that sad little burger.

Final Thoughts: In conclusion, if you find yourself at Little Maria's Pizza & Subs, skip the Pizza Burger unless you’re in the mood for a culinary game of “Will It Chew?” Instead, dive headfirst into those loaded fries—they’re the real stars here! Just remember: when life gives you hockey pucks, load up on fries and keep...

I used to take my kid every Saturday and we haven’t been back since around Feb as the last few visits were just not worth it. Food quality and service have gone down hill.

Their online menu has items that are listed incorrectly and they don't include the sides they advertise. We thought we had missing food on our last physical visit because of this and when I asked about it the lady became angry and accused me of just wanting free food. It was literally on your menu and had always been included, how was I supposed to know it’s not now? It was the bread for my kids pasta and to top it off it wasn’t even good and the kid wouldn’t eat it, said it doesn’t taste like it used to. She’s right, it didn’t taste the same.

So we just haven’t gone back to them since around Feb. Now a few days ago my wife ordered delivery as a surprise lunch for us and still the same quality issues. She thought they forgot the kids bread on the order and I explained it doesn’t come with it anymore and that they still haven’t updated their online menus. So nothing has improved since our last actual visit. I have been taking the kid to Ciros for their pasta this year and have had good luck there with quality...

I tried Little Maria's again after a year of staying away. WOW, what a difference a year makes as they have gone from 1 star to a full 5 stars. Our meal today was terrific. Their steak and cheese Stromboli was absolutely the best I've ever tasted. My wife ate spaghetti and she was very happy with it as well as the salad, very fresh. They have new tables, chairs, and the restaurant is spotless. I haven't tried their breadsticks since my last review but their food has improved beyond my expectations. I left my old review just to show their improvement.

This is my old review and is null and void: The End of an Era I've been coming to Little Maria's for many years and have always loved the food and the consistency of the taste. Well, all good things come to an end!!! I can no longer recommend this restaurant. The breadsticks were a family favorite, they ruined them now. Instead of seasonings in olive oil, they are now covered in garlic butter and parmesan cheese - AWFUL!! The steak Stromboli is no longer any good, the taste is off and today the ingredients inside the Stromboli was luke warm to cold. IMHO, the new owners have ruined this, once...

We carried out, so the atmosphere doesn't apply. We purchased the baked spaghetti, and pasta bolognese. They were both dry and the "sauce" tasted pasty as if they only used tomato paste but with much less flavor. The spaghetti had hardly any cheese on it and it was almost all pasta. Neither one tasted unique to one another....both bland and dry! Not impressed at all and I paid $45. We did get a simple 10" cheese pizza which was fine, but how can you ruin a cheese pizza!?! Very disappointed in Little Maria's and I am not sure when I will go back!

Always great food and friendly service!! One of my favorite places to visit when in the area! The atmosphere is cozy and if you would like, there is seating outside as well. Great place to stop by for a quick bite for lunch, or a nice little place for dinner, romantic or flying solo. There is something for everyone! The salads and pizza are phenomenal! I highly recommend the Steak and Cheese Salad! And grab a slice to go along with it. They also have lunch specials daily. Great little spot! Don't blink or you'll miss it and pass right on by!
