We drove in from Fort Worth and Austin for my graduation December 13th. Arrived early and got breakfast at greers with my sister. We had no idea about the town or it’s restaurants but once we saw greers we had to have it! Looked like good home cooked food. And it was. Until we experienced the compassions and hospitality service with the hostess. My sister and i walk in and she stares at us. Doesn’t ask how many, doesn’t offer a good morning, she just stares at us. Tall (5’9) brown hair and was in a pony tail. I finally said “2 please” and she turned around and starting walking towards i guess where we were to be seated. There were maybe 4 people total tables taken. The hostess manages to take us to the far wall and sandwich us between two taken tables. Half booth half table. It wouldn’t of been a problem if it was just me. But we had a gift with us. Bags. And just drove 2+ hours. Also didn’t understand why we were seated so close to other individuals eating. So i kindly asked “ma’am can we please be seated somewhere else?” She let out a frustrated gasp grabbed the menus and put us completely on the other side of the restaurant by the window and Christmas tree. Places the menus down and walked away. We even said thank you for making different arrangements. As she walked away i sat my phone down and followed behind to go find the restrooms. I found the hostess at the bar area, which looked like she was expressing her frustrations to all of the staff. How do i know? As she was talking to all of them all 6 girls stared at me as i walked to the restroom. I was in complete shock. Not only just by the lack of customer care but the initial service from the beginning. When i came out of the restroom i found the hostess on the way to the table and asked her “did we do something wrong? I feel like somethings not right” she responded “oh nope. Just trying to accommodate y’all”. Luckily we were placed with a wonderful kind caring waitress named Courtney. She inquired about our trip, what i was graduating in, and blessed us with a merry Christmas and safe travels! As an area of operations manager for Waco and Dallas healthcare facilities myself, we strive to provider exceptional customer service and practice implementing compassion and hospitality in various ways. Courtney is the epitome of what we practice and she truly made our visit turn from an unwelcome negative to a welcoming positive. To the hostess, if i were your superior i would suggest you utilize your strengths in a different career field so that your weaknesses are not so much brought to light. I hope and expect Greers to do some sort of intervention or in service on their expectation on compassion hospitality and speak with the young lady that worked at 8:30am as a hostess at greers...
Read moreI was so looking forward to eating lunch here when my husband and I decided to drive to Stephenville from the metroplex for a little day trip. The reviews I read were mostly great, so I figured we couldn’t go wrong. Alas, that wasn’t the case. First, the positive: The staff was very friendly, especially our server. She was very attentive, prompt, helpful and sweet. The food came out fast. The interior is rather plain, but bright and clean. The corn bread is DELICIOUS! I wish I would have ordered a dozen to take home. Soft, pillowy, slightly sweet. Very unique and very tasty. Now the mediocre: We started with the appetizer platter - the fried deviled eggs were bland, the fried pickles were decent and the stuffed jalapeños were amazing! My husband’s burger was just average. Lastly, the negative: My chicken and dumplings were the worst I’ve ever had. Lukewarm, thick and glutinous, no broth to speak of, no flavor (besides raw flour) or seasoning of any kind - awful! Reluctantly, I told our server and she (so very kind!) offered to get me something else. So I chose beef stew. Oh my lord, it was just as bad! Tomato base (weird!) was so thick it coated all the potatoes, carrots and onions so a piece of carrot could not be distinguished from a potato. Only four tiny pieces of gray, gristly meat the size of my thumbnail (I had to search around the bowl to find them in the tomatoey bloodbath.) Everything tasted metallic, like it had just been dumped from a can. I didn’t eat the stew and left there still moderately hungry. (Also, my hubby’s fries were limp and greasy - so unappetizing.) Needless to say, I was very disappointed in this place. I keep imaging what Robert from Restaurant Impossible would say if he tasted their food. They definitely need a new chef/cook to revamp...
Read moreGreer's is a modern nicely furnished restaurant in an historic building on the square in downtown Stephenville. It previously was an historic saloon from the late 1800s and early 1900s! Pictures and artifacts of the age are well displayed throughout the restaurant!
We are returning satisfied customers to Greer's. We had breakfast here last week. Always generous portions; the omlets are huge! Home fries are large chunks of potatoes. Bacon and eggs are perfectly cooked. The biscuits are warm and fresh from the oven and includes gravy. The cinnamon roll was large and served in a bowl with lots of creamy icing; also hot from the oven! The freshly brewed coffee is wonderful!
We went back for lunch another day. The hamburger was cooked to my preference and was perfect! A fresh bun and the usual fresh tomato, onion, and lettuce topped it off. The fries were homemade and freshly cooked. The iced tea was great, not bitter or strong!
The lunch special was a generous thick hamburger steak, skin mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas. It was a great home-cooked meal!
The servers are generally students at the nearby Tarleton State University. They are really nice, courteous, and helpful! They are prompt and professional.
The restroom is fully wheelchair handicapped accessible!
Parking is best across the street on the west side of the square and then cross the street to the restaurant.
The food is great, service is prompt and friendly, the building is fully wheelchair handicapped accessible, and parking works across the street. A great place for...
