We were frankly a little disappointed. When you drive through the williwacks to a place literally at the end of the highway on the coast, you expect it to be something special. Maybe it's our fault we didn't check it out in advance, but we didn't. Arrived at 1:15 on a Tuesday afternoon. Having to find a counter in a corner back by the kitchen to place an order, and (a) finding no employee at said counter, though there were multiple customers standing there, and when said employee did return, (b) being told the kitchen wasn't accepting orders for 15 minutes (!), was a bit much. What do they do at noon on a Saturday, when there are (presumably) people lined up to the door?
The lobster roll was good but nothing special - a goodly portion of lobster meat, minimum of mayo, on a hot-dog roll, with a small bag of potato chips and a pickle spear. Not so much as a single leaf of lettuce lining the roll. "Lobster tacos" did have a pinch of shredded lettuce, but otherwise were the same thing on corn tortillas (2). Some diced tomato and black olives, just a garnish of each, would have added considerable interest and flavor beyond the mango-habañero salsa. You got your own drinks at a machine. I would have expected this at some dive in the interior of the state, but not on the coast.
It's a beautiful setting, but if I could offer management two suggestions, they'd be these: (1) Make fries or onion rings - even a small portion would be fine - standard fare, instead of the potato chips, with the orders, and (2) go back to a more traditional sit-down-server service arrangement, where someone comes out, takes your order, then delivers it to you when it's ready. There were cars from as far away as South Dakota and Nevada in the parking lot - you want people to WANT to come back, and to tell all their friends about how fabulous you were!
We'd almost brought an elderly friend with us, who's functionally blind, and this would have been a nightmare for her. We were very glad we'd decided to postpone our trip to the coast with her.
Bottom line was, we had a decent meal, but somewhat overpriced for the total package that we got. Don't see any reason to go...
Read moreDrove 1 1/2 hours for a nice fathers day lunch in one of our favorite towns to eat at the Fisherman's restaurant. Confusing entry since they had not changed the parking lot signs for the new name. Then a completely new format, which if you wanted a beer required a separate order. The restaurant was not busy. We ordered standard fried seafood fare, which takes about 5 minutes to prepare, and waited 45 minutes. We asked a "waiter"/order taker to check on our order, and he never got back to us. He then delivered food to a party that arrived well after we did. We saw 2 orders delivered in 50 minutes. Then someone from the kitchen came with an order of steamed clams and asked if it was our order. We finally left as it was obvious they didn't have their act together. I shudder to think what it will be like during the busy season. We told our "waiter" why we keft. No apology. He didn't care. Then went to Anglers restaurant, got seated quickly, and was served in 10 minutes, all at a cheaper...
Read moreI can't really give the restaurant fewer than three stars due to the quality of the food and the excellent service we got from Abby specifically, but based on everything else about it, I'm tempted. The host/order taker offered me a garlic wrap for my fish tacos, which turned out not to be available, and didn't give the impression he knew what he was doing. The tabletop felt like it was going to fall off as soon as something was placed on it. All the soda fountains were about 50/50 on whether they'd dispense the listed drink or seltzer water. They were out of clams and lobsters by 6 and calamari by 7, and that's just what we tried to order. The take-out order I placed after our meal took at least 20 minutes, for a stonecutter sandwich and a cup of scallop chowder. Again, the food ranged from good to incredible, and I understand that new staff won't be flawless when they're put on the job, but leave them unsupervised and people will have bad...
