Cafe 1832 is one of the shops at the Strasburg Railway. The overall experience was nice - I visited around Christmas time and some carolers came to sing in the cafe while I was there. The festive ambiance was fun! As long as you’re not expecting fine dining, you’ll probably be quite satisfied.
The burgers are larger than average (think five guys, not McDonald’s), for $8. The baked potatoes are less satisfying - they use a combination of real shredded cheese and processed nacho cheese - so my first bite gave me a slightly unpleasant surprise. The drink machine was malfunctioning, but the attentive staff noticed my trouble and fixed it promptly. Seating is a mix of table and bar style (meaning counters and tall stools, not alcoholic beverages), with a small seating area indoors and a few tables on the porch. Seating is limited and they don’t do reservations, but you don’t need a table to get food. There is a sink for hand washing, but no public bathroom in the building, so you’ll have to walk outside to the Station restrooms to do...
Read moreFirst the good: convenient for those visiting the train station, the burger was good and the buns were excellent, the fries were better than I expected. Indoor and outdoor seating to watch the trains. The bad: it's a tourist trap so prices are high. I paid $15 for a burger and fries. And they were good but not $15 good. The ugly; I asked for a cup of water because I didn't like soda and the cashier charged me the full soda price. I again explained I just wanted water, she said the cup costs $2.50. I just wanted tap water. I'm a water guy, I order water all the time and always get free tap water except for Cafe 1832. I could even understand a quarter. Perhaps it was a new employee or maybe that is the policy but it shouldn't cost $2.50 for a 12 oz cup of water. The food itself was better than expected, next time I'll just bring...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted with the customer service received here. My husband ordered a side of fries. Waited 15-20 min, still no fries. We then asked about them at about the half hour point. No one had any idea we were waiting on a side of fries. I would also like to add that a couple staff members got food in the time we were waiting. Place was not busy at all. Kitchen staff was literally standing around. We ask for a refund since we were over it. Four total staff members could not figure out how to do this, so we told them to just forget about it and they could keep their $3.50. They literally laughed at us as we walked out the door. I will never be back and will make sure to inform anyone I know who visits to not stop at this cafe. I cannot believe the railroad allows such a disorganized business with such rude...
