The Little Pub My siblings and I are looking for a gathering place suitable for a birthday celebration for one of our sisters in January 2025. While browsing on TripAdvisor I saw a listing for a beachfront hotel in Connecticut that was known to our family before new owners took it over a few years ago. The Surfside Hotel (see my review on TripAdvisor) took what had been Marnick's Motel and upgraded it in the past few years. Attached to the Surfside is The Little Pub. My hope was that the Pub might serve us well as we selected a venue for our gathering. I spent the night earlier this month at Surfside and had dinner at the Pub. Service was excellent, the bar was well-stocked, and the dining area had real charm - aided in part by a nice fire in the stone fireplace. Drinks were reasonably priced and promptly presented. I started with the New England clam chowder and found it piping hot and very tasty. I had the beef fajitas - more than I could finish but nicely seasoned and again, right-off-the-grill hot. My visit was a good one, and it seemed from the vibe the bar patrons love the Little Pub. I can understand their positive attitude. Things to keep in mind: brunch is served starting at 10 a.m. but only on Saturday and Sunday; otherwise, the pub opens at 11:30 a.m.; the bar may be open after 9 p.m. depending on the day.

Location is beautiful. We were lucky enough to get a window seat in the corner. I don’t think they had enough staff on for the amount of guests that were in the building as we were always looking for our waitress if we needed something. She didn’t stop by to see if we needed anything. The food was very tasty although I have to say their “bowl” of soup is more of a glorified cup. A little surprising given the price. It was a very hot day so I expected it to be a little cooler inside than it was. Maybe because we were in the corner surrounded by windows it kept it warmer. They have a gravel parking lot across the street so we were able to park with no problems. We had a pleasant experience none the less and although I don’t live in the area I will come back if down that way. Maybe not on a weekend.

Little Pub Stratford CT was a big disappointment during the visit of Oct 10, 2020. This was my first visit to this location having been to the Fairfield location prior. The venue is different being they took over the former Marnick’s, so it is on the beach. Not sure about this but across the street was an empty lot that Little Pub put in a few picnic tables and a band that isn’t ready for prime time. Where is it written that anyone with a musical instrument can also sing. I enjoyed the time the band took a break. Let’s get to the overall dining experience. We dined outside. If we had known that they hadn’t made any provision to see what you were eating, inside would have been better. No additional lighting. No additional cleaning of the tables in between parties. We witnessed a wet rag being used on the tables without any sort of spray bottle to introduce a fresh cleaner. The menu was the usual greasy vinyl covered versus many other places using a QR Coded or disposable paper menu. Wait service was lackluster. Maybe it was an off night but in the restaurant business, the first impression is everything from service to food to attentiveness. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so. After being seated, it was a good 10 to 15 minutes before anyone came over to take our beverage/meal order. The food came out after 30 minutes before the beverages. We had to ask the food server about the beverages. The food server did not reply and walked away. After we spotted the waitress, we asked her about the beverages. Another 10 minutes and the beverages arrived. The chopped hamburger salad was not as the menu represented. The full-size fries on the menu were tiny chopped pieces in the salad. The lobster mac and cheese also had a different presentation versus to menu. No panko breadcrumbs and the lobster was simply thrown on top of the mac and cheese. The cheese was runny. That was a huge disappointment being that we had it in Fairfield several times. The meatloaf grill cheese was tasty, and all ingredients were present however, the onions and bacon seemed to be fused together in a solid form creating a challenge to bite and not create a mess. We also noticed other patrons having a less than stellar experience. Two females at the next table were ready to leave and asked for take-home boxes having to wait about 10 minutes. To add insult to injury, the to-go beverages were incorrect adding additional time to the already spoiled evening. After we asked for the check, it arrived after 10 minutes. Ready to pay, our waitress was also handling tables inside besides the ten tables outside, hence we were compelled to have the hostess take payment as we exited. We hope this is not symptomatic of the regular experience at this Little Pub location, but I am not at this juncture willing to give it...

Great location absolutely horrible customer service. We have been coming here since they've opened and every single time there is an issue. Especially with online orders. We've ordered with them online since Covid began. Every time the orders come out 20-30 minutes after the time they said they would. Yet, we keep giving them chances. Today I met my limit with the poor service. We placed our online order at 6:30. Website said it would be ready at 7:19. Arrived at 7:19 and was told, like the five other people waiting to pick up their orders, it will be out soon. Ten minutes later the hostess tells me they don't have the soup I ordered but I could replace it with another. When I asked what was in the soup they were going to replace it with, she said it's on the menu. She grabbed the menu then said she needs to grab the waiter. Then she comes back and says the manager would be right with me. I pulled the manager, Johnny, aside to explain to him that every time we order there is some sort of issue. He basically said there is nothing he can do but offer me another soup. Total disregard for the poor service we've received time and time again. He said if I wanted to complain, I should write a letter, thus why I am writing this review. Five star manager they have. He then proceeds to bring out my order, and comes out with only the soup. Didn't even take the time to see what I had ordered and what he could do to correct the situation. Then I asked him where the rest of my order was. He went back into the kitchen , and came out with the rest. Deciding to check my order before I left, I realized I had no dressing for the salad I ordered. I approached the hostess who goes into the kitchen to get the dressing I was missing, only to come out with the wrong dressing. No apologies. When I mentioned to the hostess first regarding the poor service we have received over and over, I was told that it's because the demand is so high. If you're in the restaurant business, you should be prepared to handle the volume that comes your way and at least make people feel valued. A lot of improvement to be made here, not only with training the staff, but learning how to manage a restaurant and the expectations that come with it. People work hard for their money and when they place an order either online or in person they expect to be valued and treated well, not just dismissed when they voice their concern. My mistake was coming back again and again after...

We were seated at a table so small our 2 waters and 2 drinks barely fit. Every time someone walked by our table our drinks would spill over (as the floor was uneven and we were seated right by their pos system and kitchen door). Our waitress Alyssa G (table 16) was friendly when she greeted us and served our drinks and waters quickly and took our appetizer order. However, after she took our appetizer order she never came back ( the appetizers looked amazing). She was too busy at the bar with 2 other female employees (a blonde and a brunette wearing a coat, again all very friendly) having shots to come back and help us ( I think the shots helped make them so friendly). My fiancée had to go get her so that she can come get our order of calamari that was not cooked properly and ask for our check. While we waited for her to come back for our check other employees were trying to calm another female employee that was clearly upset that Alyssa G and her 2 other female employee's were having shots at the bar while working. This was the second time this employee was being reassured that someone will eventually see Alyssa G and her 2 other coworkers drinking. There were several employees/supervisors that saw Alyssa G and her 2 coworkers drinking more than once and none said anything about it. Overall, I wouldn't recommend dinning in if Alyssa G a very friendly ginger and her co worker friends a very happy blonde and brunette wearing a coat are your servers, you won't see them again unless you take a walk to the bar to go have shots with them. If you are ok with that then this is definitely the place for you. Cheers! I don't usually post bad reviews, I just end up never going back to the establishment where I have a bad experience because I don't want to negatively impact a business but this was a really bad dining experience. With that being said and end on a positive note everyone else was working hard and checking in on the other customers. We were also not charged for the calamari. The view of the ocean was amazing and our other appetizers were...
