I never thought I would write a negative review of a Cracker Barrel. We have been to many across the South as we travel and have always enjoyed the Stuart FL location near our home in Jupiter, FL. But, Easter Sunday 4/17/22 things were different. The problem was simple: my scrambled eggs were cooked well done as an overcooked glob. I had ordered soft scrambled. When I brought my complaint to the attention of the originally very kind server, Vicki, she turned weird. "That's the way they make 'em. If I take 'em back they're coming back the same way." I simply said I want soft scrambled. She took them away and soon returned with the same eggs. They had simply chopped them up and put them on a different plate. I put them to the side. My wife and I ate what was edible of our food and started to the register in the store to pay. The manager, at least I assume he was, sidled up beside me and said in a very commanding voice "I cancelled your check. You don't have to pay. You upset my server. She's very upset and I just want you to leave right now. Just leave."
It was a first for me. I've never been asked to leave anywhere before. I wish I had been thrown out of a better place than a Cracker Barrel just for the sake of making the experience more meaningful.
I was never nasty to the server, who was a rather pathetic figure of advanced age with an obvious spinal condition rendering her hunched over. As a 72 year old myself I observed she probably needed that job and needed to work on Easter Sunday. That's sad, but no excuse for whatever she may have told her manager. At no time did I blame her for the food problem. That's a kitchen issue. Perhaps she's just a miserable person. I hope not. I wish her only good. And, I wish that manager somehow learns proper techniques of management or finds employment where public contact is not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I have been customers for about 15 years. Wednesday was always our broccoli cheddar chicken night. However, on Wednesday, April 2nd, we went there at about 3pm. The dining room had about 5 tables occupied, 4 already eating, another table with 3 customers being attended to by the waiter. My wife and I waited about 10 minutes for a waiter to take our order. Once the waiter attending to the table of 3 took their order, he proceeded towards the kitchen. Already aggravated and hungry, I took the menus and hit the table to get his attention, to which it did. He turned around, came to our table and apologized for not being attentive, and started to take our order. A blond haired woman, named Marie, mid 30's, about 168 lbs, and about 5' 7" tall approached our table, apologized for the lateness in having waiters take our order, and demanded that I not repeat the gesture of hitting the table with the menu ti gain the waiters attention again. I told her that we grew tired of waiting over 10 minutes to be served, especially when we knew, that at least 4 workers there knew that we were there UNATTENDED for over 10 minutes. My wife and I were disrespected. In no uncertain words we told her that we were leaving, she replied "That's good, I'm glad you're leaving, and don't come back." We were good customers and good tippers. But this new staff need some serious training in Customer Service. I could accept waiters being overwhelmed with a busy dining room with occupied tables, but with only 3 or 4 occupied tables, totally unacceptable and ridiculous. I suggest that CEO's and top level management make unannounced visits to see their employees in action. Unfortunately today was my last visit to that specific Cracker Barrel restaurant. Big...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have always loved Cracker Barrel and enjoy shopping in the gift shop, but lately my experiences there have gone down hill and have been very disappointing. My husband and I frequent the Stuart, FL location quite often and have had multiple bad experiences there. Last night we had dinner there and my husband thought it was freezing in the dining room and it was too cool. Our waiter, Peter, was very hospitable though. When he came to take our order, he brought the silverware in a brown paper bag without any napkins and when I took my silverware out of the bag, it was clearly dirty (see photo). The menu had some new items on it which were mostly appetizers and we were disappointed that my husband's favorite meal had been removed from the menu which was the Uncle Hershal's Breakfast. Another favorite has also been removed which is the Eggs in a Basket. I ordered the Maple Bacon Chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes where luke warm to cold when our waiter brought out our food which has happened to me on many occasions here and then we had to wait while he went to get clean silverware and napkins. When he returned, he apologized for the silverware being damp and said he had to hand wash the silverware because most of it was not very clean out back. That is very disturbing! I also find it bad that our waiter was clearing tables as well as bringing people their food....a health hazard if you ask me. Due to the decline of the Cracker Barrel restaurants we have experienced in Florida and missing favorites on the menu, we will not be dining...
