Food: ordered 3 plates from combo meals. Pork fried rice was dry and obviously old. Sadly, they stopped putting in anything in it other than rice and pork (used to have egg, peas, etc). Beef teriyaki flavor was great, quality of meat okay but it tasted two days old due to the toughness. Chicken fingers were old. Oil they used seemed okay, must have been changed that day at least. Worst of all was the lo mein dish. Noodles were old, overcooked and CLEARLY burnt. Flecks of black all over the noodles.
Service: waitress was great. Got triple sat (three parties of 2 or more sat at once). She handled it well except never came back to see if anything was wrong, but can't say it was her fault because we ate and left quickly.
Environment: decor, plates, etc were the same from twenty years ago (I know, I was there then too). Same tables, walls, everything. Bathrooms were bad, husband said mens was disgusting. Women's was clean-ish but molding falling off, water never got hot, and lady next to me had trouble flushing. Only bright side is when you walk in the fountain is still there and working which looks cool.
Management: here's the worst of the place. I asked the waitress if they can take the burnt noodle dish off my bill. We ate two pieces of boneless ribs from it and a few bites of noodles, but rest untouched. Manager came out with dish and told me I was wrong, they were burnt. I said I disagreed. He said no it's not and asked if I wanted it or not (I was boxing up things by now). I said I'll take it if I am paying for it (would have at least kept ribs and rice). Again he said it's not burnt and pointed out we ate two ribs. I AGAIN said I disagree. He didn't say anything back, just took the dish leading me to believe that he was taking it off bill (he did eventually). Also during the discussion I asked why the rice only had rice and bits of pork. He said kids don't like the vegetables and that all other fried rice choices had them. Just not those. Waitress said they weren't there probably cuz of all the allergies people have now.
I'm so sad. This used to be "the" place to go for special occasions or a night out. It'll take a lot of coaxing to get...
Read moreCalled ahead to make sure they were open and the woman we spoke to was so sweet and friendly! She was a middle aged blonde, with great skin for her age. She let us sit wherever we wanted, with 3 rooms to choose from which was great because there were so many people in the lounge. We truly felt like VIPs! Then, our girl Maddy came over to serve us that Chinese tea that we love so much! She was so cold, but her attitude wasn’t (shivering - hey management - turn up the HEAT for our girl Maddy)! Next, we ordered the pupu platter for 2, with that fire in the middle, which our girl Maddy KNEW was gonna be in the middle. Then, one minute later, our pupu platter for 2 was delivered (great job kitchen!) our girl Maddy lit up the purple goo, and a great twist was that there was no grill on top which was so fun like camping! Our girl Maddy assured us that this was how they do it here at Kahulas - funky! We weren’t in the mood for shrimp today, so our girl Maddy kindly let us swap that out for more crab rangoons. We ate the whole thing - YUM YUM AND MORE YUM!!!!! Our girl Maddy was impressed. One of us went to the bathroom, and during that time our girl Maddy came over and we had a great conversation that we’ll remember forever. Unfortunately, our girl Maddy was still Cold. 7 star experience. Turn up the heat and turn down the lights! We...
Read moreIf I could give zero I would. Last Sunday, went there for dinner with my family. Walked in, receptionist with unlit cigarette hanging out of her mouth on her way to break. They put us in the bar area, fine. Went in, maybe 3-4 guys with chairs watching tv, one couple in a booth and us. I had not been there since 2000 and the seats are the same, flat cushions, covered with duct tape everywhere. We sat at a table and waited. While waiting the other couple got up and left and said they were there for awhile waiting for service. Girl walked over , dropped menus on our table and got behind the bar with some older Asian gentleman who was pacing. We waited and waited and I said can we have service? Girl yells ACROSS the room from the bar, want something to drink while I am here? Turned and made another guy another drink. We waited and decided enough!!!! Got up and she said do you want something? We just said never coming back , great service! I have no idea how they can treat customers this way? That made two parties walk out and nothing done. I have read terrible reviews but always give a place a chance, HUGE MISTAKE.
Disgraceful customer service, low class girl at the bar, dark, dirty and very old.
Definitely can tell the old owners are gone . Very sad, used to be a nice place.
Went to Empire Buffet,...
