First off, I called 2 times to order carry out. Both times, no answer. I tried a third time and was prompted to press 0 for operator. I did and was transferred to the hotel. I was told that the restaurant phones are having issues. She was very nice and transferred me to a manager at the restaurant, who took my order. When we arrived to pick it up, there was nobody at the hostess desk or the check out area. We waited for a bit before someone came out. I told them my name and that I ordered carry out. He said oh ok, and walked back into the kitchen. When he came back out he told us to have a seat and it would be brought out when ready. It took another 10 minutes and he took a bag over to the check out desk and walked away. He didn’t say anything to us as to whether that was our carry out, so I walked over to the check out area, but nobody was there. I waited for awhile and a lady came. I asked if this bag was ours, after looking all over the bag for a bill or a name on the bag, ,she finally found the bill laying at the edge of the desk. It had our name on it. She Attempted to ring the bill up, but appeared to not know how. After several minutes, she walked away and went back into the kitchen to get someone to help. Someone came out and showed her how to ring up the bill. Finally, we were able to leave. Also, I want to add, there were customers eating in the restaurant, but they were not busy at all, to cause such delays. We also stopped at the bakery. We weren’t greeted by the employee. She just asked what we wanted. She wasn’t rude, just not welcoming. There were no other customers in the bakery at the time. When we brought the food home. What a disappointment! My husband order charbroiled chopped steak. It was tough, looked like it had set for awhile and dried out. The potatoes were ok, but not a very big portion and it had less than a teaspoon of gravy in the middle. His salad was ok. I ordered slow roasted pork. The portion was very small. It had no broth or gravy on it, it was very dry and overcooked. My California vegetables weren’t even done, they were hard. My home fries were soggy. What a disappointment! I’ve eaten there in the past, over a year ago, and had great service and food, but clearly this restaurant has issues, not only with staffing but the quality of the food. The bakery items were good, not great like in the past, but good. I spent over $30.00 and other than the bakery items, it was a total waste of money. Very very...
Read moreWe were very disappointed, to say the least. We drove 106 miles one way to get there, we have been going there since 1992, at least every other year. Have always bragged @ loved it. Took a very dear friend of ours with us today, got the menu, was truly a shocker, almost got up to leave, actually should have. No more family meals that we enjoyed so much. The only Amish person I seen was the check out lady when I paid my bill. I kept watching a man @ woman, that wasn't Amish, acting like they owned it, very watchful from these two people running a very tight ship, was not impressed at all. One plate from the salad bar is $6.49 @ they were watching. We had 2 chicken dinners of 2 dark meat ( drum @ thigh)with mashed potatoes @ cole slaw, which tasted like awful cheap Deli stuff, which also had 2 of us in the bathroom before we were finished eating. I 3 pc chicken dinner with onion rings @ cole slaw. Daughter had meat loaf, mashed potatoes @cole slaw.she had no problems, thank God, she's a bad diabetic. The food was good @ service was excellent @ i tipped accordingly. I'm a server myself, I watch everything. I'm just guessing but from what I seen today, we will never be back to this establishment ever again. Truly not the Amish experience that we have enjoyed all of these years..not to mention the drinks, 3 waters with lemon @ 1 Root Beer.which was right, but a tea that we did not order. Also a sur charge of 3.00%. Wow.we were so emaressed for our friend, because it was a special place to eat for us. If this is going to be a trend in Amish country, better think again, because this can effect the Amish Country economy. Will never be in Wilmont ever again. When I come to Amish country again, I will be eating at Der Dutchman, @ if they sell out, I will never go to Amish Country ever again....
Read moreWe have been dining here for many years and we based our first visit on a Trip Advisor review. We were surprised by the sparse number of guests dining last Tuesday for lunch. Many times in the past we had to wait in line to be seated. As we entered we also noticed the upstairs gift shop had closed. We were escorted to our table and reviewed the menu. The food selections were the same as in the past, the prices were not. The menu price is $16.49 for a three piece chicken dinner, with a salad bar $5.49 and beverage 2.99. One meal will set you back almost $25.00. We opted to skip the salad bar. For me $25.00 is an expensive lunch. We ordered three dinners plus a kids meal. The broasted chicken didn’t seem to be as meaty as in the past. We ordered breaded mushrooms and onion rings as sides.
We stopped in the bakery on the way out. I loved their apple fritters and chocolate brownies. We noticed the bakery displays had less baked items for sale. In the past baked goods had a price point of 6 items to get a reduced price. Now each brownie is $2.99 and to get a break you had to buy 12. I can buy a nice cake for $22.99 the cost of 12 brownies. Oh and the Apple fritters, were mostly fritter, not much Apple.
Amish door is now following the trend of businesses adding on the 3 % service charge if you pay with a credit card.
With increased prices and run of the mill food, I don’t we will return. It appears since the management has changed so has...
