I am never going there again... We arrived at 12:30 pm. No one came to greet us and seat us. We waited about 7 minutes at the entrance while two waitresses were talking together in the back. After that, we decided to go ask them if we could sit somewhere. After we were seated, our waitress came to clean the table, previously used by someone. Took her about 10 minutes to come. Up until now, we still haven't ordered anything. After cleaning the table, she dropped a pile of menus on the table. She came back to see us to take our order after another 10 minutes. So... It's been 27 minutes and we still don't have any drinks, but hey... at least we ordered! When she finally got our order, she brings our drinks soon enough, but it appears she forgot to input our order in the system (which we don't know yet). 30 minutes after ordering, we tell ourselves it's a bit long, but the restaurant is crowded, so I guess it's fine. After one hour, and after we see people that ordered after us already got their plates, we are starting to ask questions. When we finally get a hold of our waitress and ask her about our meals, she goes in the kitchen "to see what is going on". When exiting the kitchen, she goes to the computer and enters an order, while looking at us and at her pad. It was obviously our order she was sending there. When she comes back to us, after going back to deliver some more plates to other clients that arrived after us, she tells us that "the girl that input her orders after her has done it too quick and it erased ours". Now, we've been here for an hour and a half and still haven't got our plates. Our drinks have been empty for at least 25 minutes and we got no refills. She tells us that she is going to put a priority on our plates. She says she will bring us chips and salsa, but just like our meals, we haven't seen the color of that. She then comes back to me telling me they don't have any more club sandwiches. Well, for the past hour and a half, I've seen plenty coming out of the kitchen. If she had done her job, I would have had mine too. I end up ordering something else. After one hour and 45 minutes of waiting, we finally get a soft drink refill. Still no plates, still no chips and salsa. She tells us she can't find any chips and salsa. Why would you offer them in the first place if there isn't any? Our friend got her chicken wings and fries after two hours. She waited about 10-15 minutes and we still didn't have our plates. We ended up leaving, what we should have done a while ago. I think we have been more than patient here. The kitchen staff was not very cooperative either as we could still see plates coming out for other tables, not being ours. If you are looking to lose 2:30 hours of your life, then Porter's Cafe is a must. If not, you can go in to have a look at the decor. It looks very nice. Believe me, we had enough time to check out all corners of it. But don't even bother ordering something... I would have selected 0 stars out of 5, but that choice was...
Read moreI happened to be in Kearny for the weekend for a large get-together. Upon waking Sunday morning, I was very hungry and had planned on having breakfast at one of, I believe, only 2 restaurants in Kearny, one that a member of our group had mentioned the day before as having very good food. I was disappointed when informed that they aren't open Sundays, which is typical for small towns. So, passing up a frozen burrito (blah!) at the local mini-mart, I decided to ride my motorcycle the 21 miles (on an empty stomach!) to Superior. I stopped for fuel & asked the gal ringing me up if there were any cafés in town, wanting to avoid the very popular (crowded) Mexican joint right off of the highway. Thinking back, I am so glad that I asked! She directed me to Porter's, an eclectic little joint that is housed in a building built around 1916. I love old buildings, with all of their past history. The owner, a polite older gent, informed me that the place had been a saloon most of it's life. When you walk in, it looks more like a bar with am several wood tables, than a restaurant. And they do have a good selection of craft beers here, as another reviewer posted previously. They still had 5 minutes before opening (the courteous owner let me in early)and I noticed a young gal at a back table, hand slicing, what I would soon find out to be, their delicious French fries. As I stated before, I was quite hungry, so I ordered the "Double-D" burger, I think it was called, with ONLY Swiss & green chillies because, when it comes to burgers, I am something of a purist. Also, if a restaurant is going to serve burgers in the Southwestern U.S., in my humble opinion, offering green chillies is a must! Like all of their burgers, it comes with a choice of side, and I chose the fresh-cut fries. I also ordered a side salad which had sliced Roma tomatoes, sliced cucumbers & romaine lettuce. Now, had I known how big the burgers were, I never would have gotten the salad. The mountainous hamburger arrived with, I'm not exaggerating, two 1 INCH THICK, hand-formed patties that were cooked perfectly and extremely tasty and juicy. I have had some high-end burgers lately at several different(and pricy!) burgerjoints but this place puts them to shame. Besides the hamburger offerings, there are several sandwiches to choose from & different sides as well. And they usually have a daily special that the cook comes up with that's not normally on their menu. I am very pleased that I happened upon this place. I'm going to have to say that it is my new favorite burger joint, though It may be a bit of a drive, but the better things in life usually take some effort. And this place is...

Update Apr 19 2024. Another good lunch experience. I had the Philly Cheese Steak. Having grown up in suburban Philly I can say that Porter’s version is pretty darn good. Needs a tweak, though. It’s served with provolone cheese - lots of it. Too much in fact. Makes the Sammy heavy and overpowers the beef. I probably could have asked for a substitute had I known. If it were up to me I’d serve it with plain old American cheese, and not too much of it. Friendly staff, as always. Cold cold draft beer. My wife had the taco salad with ground beef. Huge portion. She loved it. Still 5 stars. New pics attached.
Update Jan 27 2024. Live music, Saturday, lunch time - and the place is packed. Plenty of outdoor seating on two levels even though there were no inside tables available. Our party of four had wings, beef nachos and I had a turkey Sammy with Swiss on rye, side of fries. Ice cold draft beers. Excellent service, as always. Pics attached.
Updated Nov 8 2023. We’re back in AZ for the season. Had lunch today at Porter’s. Are you kidding me? My Club Sammy could feed four! HUGE. The deli meats were nicely chilled and the bacon crisp and tasty. I had mine on sourdough bread. The fries are simply great. My wife had ground chicken cheese nachos. Also a huge portion. Our beers were ICE cold. Fast friendly service. Good prices. Good value. Pics attached.
Stopped in for lunch on the way back to San Tan Valley from Globe. Have never been to Porter's but we decided that today was the day. Crazy busy at noon on a Wednesday. No problem finding a table. Initial service was fast but food delivery after we ordered was slow - somewhere between 20-30 minutes. That's ok. We enjoyed having time to chat and the atmosphere. Portions are HUGE. Our burgers were no less than 1/2 pound of beef. Mine had a wonderful smoky taste. I ordered the Superior Burger which was topped with very fresh onion, lettuce & tomato; cheese; just the right touch of mayo; giant green chilis and thick slab bacon. Excellent burger bun. The side of fries that was included was also large. Great prices considering the quality and portion size. Good selection of draft beers. All-in-all a very...
