During a family fishing trip to Surfside our family began to get hungry so I requested my wife go get some hamburgers. My Father-in-law suggested she go to the Jetty Shack to get us all burgers. After my wife ordered the burgers she noticed a shady-looking individual, who was covered in tattoos, get out of a old pickup truck and walk into the restaurant. A little while later the man comes back outside, moves his truck, and goes back inside the restaurant. While my wife and son were waiting outside for the food, she notices a wallet laying beside the man's vehicle. My wife sent our 10 year old son to go retrieve the wallet so she could bring it to the man inside the restaurant. A little while later this man comes out and starts accusing my wife of stealing his $100, yelling and cussing at her in front of my 10 year old son. A few minutes later his story changes and he is now accusing her of stealing multiple $100's from his wallet. At this point the waitress comes out and begins being rude to my wife and, seeming to take the side of the man, says that there is a camera outside and they will see whether or not my wife took money out of his wallet when the police arrive. My wife calls me on the phone, crying, and telling me how she is being falsely accused of taking someones money after returning his dropped wallet. By the time I get there and confront the man, the police are already pulling up. We explain the story to the police and get our food, which they charged us $59.50 for 4 burgers and fries, and go on our way. After dealing with this establishment I then got to eat one of the most disgusting and tasteless burgers I have ever eaten. My Father-in-law's burger gave him heartburn and my son's burger hurt his stomach. I now feel like my wife and child were almost victims of someone who preys on innocent women and children. I am saddened and angered that we are not able to teach our child how to be a good Samaritan in today's world because there are individuals who would take advantage of people who would do the right thing, like returning a dropped wallet to the rightful owner. This is just the world we live in nowadays. Even in the great...
Read moreThis is the place to go eat after a long day at Surfside Beach and is an authentic experience. Driving there from the beach is about 5 minutes. The service/ownership seemed local, and every person who came through the door, besides a few out of towners like us, seemed to be good long time friends or acquaintances. The restaurant is a bright blue shack with a dark/shaded interior to keep the sun out and lined with gravel in front for parking. When we entered we were hit by a wave of smoking and cheerful welcomes. We sat at the back by the retro arcade games that were occupied with the locals working on their scores, drinking some beer and taking another smoke. Once we got used to the smoke, we quickly browsed the classic american menu and picked the Jetty Deluxe hamburger. I asked for Dos Equis and was given an option to "dress it" with salt and lime. I've been asked if I want lime in my beer before but it's never seemed so unique and delicious before. It was seriously fantastic when the bartender came back with the bottle doused on its side in salt from rim to bottom and with a big lime wedge stuck in. I believe that's the first time I've scraped off salt of a bottle and took a swig but it was a great ritual. Then came the burger and my god it was glorious, huge, juicy and delicious. I couldn't even focus on the enormous portion of fries on the side because I was eating like I hadn't eaten before and the juices of the meat, bacon, tomatoes and bbq sauce were just dribbling down my hands and face and I believe there was definitely butter on that bun. I could care less about my appearance. There's plenty of napkins...When we left, it seemed like we ourselves had earned the title of a warm local smile and the sweet reminder of a delicious meal....
Read moreThe only reason I'm even giving 1 star is because the server was sweet. My boyfriend and I took our kids on vacation and saw many good reviews for this place so we thought we'd try it out. As soon as we walked in, we saw an old man smoking a cigarette at the bar with the food being cooked less than 10 ft away from him. We should have turned right back around and left at that point but I didn't want to seem rude and we were all hungry. Big mistake. We ordered cheesesticks and onion rings for appetizers and they were pretty good so we relaxed a bit. I ordered a cheeseburger but didn't eat it because the meat didn't taste right. My boyfriend ordered a blt but didn't even take a bite because the bacon looked raw and the texture of it looked off. My son ordered a bacon cheeseburger and ate it only because he was so hungry. My daughter ordered frito chili pie with no onions and ate maybe a quarter of it because she said it wasn't good. Our ticket came to almost $80 and I absolutely feel like our money was wasted. Definitely...
