Beware Coffee — Restaurant in Tacoma

Had to share this far and beyond gesture from the folks at Beware coffee. To say that the customer service is unparalleled is an understatement. Each time my partner and I have come here, the service is 12/10, friendly, patient, helpful, willing to chat and connect, if you have questions each and every one of the staff is willing to take the time to be present and curious about what we’re saying or inquiring. The reason for this post is just another wonderful experience we had over the weekend (6/13/25). My partner loves to try new, experimental coffee drinks with a variety of flavors and such. He’s much more adventurous than I am. Ha. Well, he ordered a drink that sounded super yummy and he was super excited about it, however he forgot he doesn’t love licorice flavor (Star anise) and realized he didn’t like the drink. I encouraged him to just get another drink but he didn’t want to inconvenience staff. He finally went to the counter and asked to buy another drink to enjoy. The staff immediately said “ no, no, no, we’ll make you something you can enjoy at no cost. Not a big deal at all.” As apologetic as my partner was, they encouraged him to not feel guilty and were speedily in making him something he enjoyed. We left extremely happy and are looking forward to the next time at beware. Customer service goes a long way....

Update: wanted to pop by and say that Just about a year after leaving my original review, this is consistently remained my favorite coffee shop of all time. Everything about the place is absolutely lovely, and every drink I’ve gotten has been fantastic. All of their syrups are house made, and truly delicious enough to be sold on their own by the bottle. They take their time making your coffee; This place is about the quality of the final product and the experience of being there, not about how fast they can get you in and push you out the door. Even if it’s a little out of your way, it’s absolutely worth it.

Original review: The reviews aren’t just hype. My husband is a strong black pour over coffee or iced americano type. I’m the type that needs some sweetness and dairy or the bitter is too much. This is the ONLY coffee spot we both find to be top of our list. The coffee is so good and so well-rounded that it satisfies us both. I’m absolutely in love. Not to mention it’s the prettiest coffee shop I’ve ever been in, bar none. Gorgeous, fresh colors, inviting atmosphere, and some plants that will make you absolutely jealous! Note the hours, so you don’t show up when they’re closed, but you’re gonna love it here.

A super comfortable and inviting shop with an owner dedicated to making the best possible coffee. Beware transcends "wave" descriptors; instead capturing the best of 2nd and 3rd wave practices while still creating their own unique results. My favorite Tacoma cafe (though being walking distance certainly influences that status) for coffee - especially pour over.

Update 2023/04/23 - just got served one of the best cortados I've ever had. Consistent throughout, just to die for!

Update 2023/06/08 - summer menu has grown and includes many solid options! Really love the Ginger Lime Fizz and the fact that two different coldbrew options are available! One leans lighter flavors (fruit, floral) and one leans deeper flavors (chocolate, earthy) for whatever mood you might be in!
