Anchor Tavern (Davis Islands) — Restaurant in Tampa

Absolutely floored at the covert racism I just experienced here tonight. Did not even order anything. Came in with friends and was IDed after ordering a beer. I am well above legal age. I did not have my ID, truthfully was annoyed but did not give any this bartender any attitude and accepted that they were doing their job. So I’m still here to have a good time right? So I load up the jukebox there are no songs playing right now. Here’s my money isn’t that what you want? Nope.. 3 songs in and bartender starts skipping my music after I watch them go over to one customer and talk. I stop them like “hey why are you skipping my music” and they claim they asked (the one person they spoke too) if they played it cuz they were gonna skip. Why would you only ask one person who played the music if you have a full bar? Oh because you didn’t ask them that, you asked them to play country music on fast pass. Ok ma’am. So I ask for my money back for the skipped songs. Gives me back $2. I start playing music on fast pass as well. There’s a price surge. Here we go. Felt like.. “we don’t like your kind around here.” Just hang a “whites only” sign how bout that?

It was two of us and we ordered the $18 barbeque boneless chicken (20 pc). The chicken hit the spot of what we were looking for. It was well cooked, a little bit dry. Good flavor, did not need the blue cheese or ranch as the barbeque recipe held very well on its own. We also ordered a long island, which was well made and good strength. The inside is very nice and I enjoyed the crowd on a Monday night. Our server was clearly overworked, serving the entire place and bartending which was a shame to see. Although they tried claiming that boneless and bone in wings are priced the same And attempted to charge my card for $30 instead of menu $18 price while arguing with me until they realized either they were wrong or could no longer try to get $30. It could have been an honest mistake given they were overworked, but this gives insight on what one may experience here. I would definitely come back regardless as the price and quality of food and drink was quite a surprise, and bonus for being a very active Monday...

The "Cheers" of Davis Islands, to say the least! Our "home away from home/get-away" with an excellent, tasty menu, friendly faces all around (both behind the bar and hanging around the other side), and a true hidden gem of South Tampa!
