A Delightful Halal Experience at Bangkok Grill in Tempe, AZ
I recently visited Bangkok Grill in Tempe, AZ for the second time, and I must say, the experience was just as delightful as the first, if not better. This restaurant has quickly become a favorite of mine, not just for its delicious Halal cuisine, but also because the food comes out exactly as it’s featured on their menu. If you want extra meat or a customized dish, just let them know and they’ll do their best to accommodate.
The co-owner and chef took the time to explain how they’ve made many changes to accommodate the Muslim community and those who don’t eat pork. All their meat is Halal/Zabihah, from their Thai food to their version of a cheesesteak. As someone originally from the East Coast, I might be a bit biased when it comes to reviewing cheesesteaks, pizzas, falafel, curry goat roti, bean pies, and carrot cakes. Nothing is quite like back home, but this is the first Halal cheesesteak place I’ve seen so far in Arizona. Plus, they have exceptional customer service and a kids' area that my 6-year-old really enjoyed.
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The owner and his brother, who is also the chef and co-owner, go out of their way to ensure every guest feels at home. Their kindness and accommodating nature truly enhance the dining experience.
The menu at Bangkok Grill is a delightful blend of flavors and dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. Whether you're in the mood for something traditional or eager to try a unique fusion dish, you won't be disappointed. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
During my visit, I tried the signature dishes again and was blown away by the consistency in quality. The flavors were rich, the portions generous, and the presentation impeccable. It's clear that the chef takes great pride in his culinary creations, and it shows in every bite.
What really sets Bangkok Grill apart, though, is the personal touch from the owners. They take the time to interact with customers, ensuring that everyone is satisfied with their meal. Their dedication to providing an outstanding dining experience is evident and much appreciated.
In summary, Bangkok Grill is a gem in Tempe, AZ. With its delicious Halal cuisine and exceptional customer service from the owner and chef, it’s a place I will continue to visit and recommend to others. If you’re looking for a restaurant that offers both amazing food and a welcoming atmosphere, look no further than...
Read moreI recently visited Bangkok Grill & Knockout Cafe on West Elliot Road and decided to try a bit of everything by ordering the stir fry, a meatball sub, and a chicken sandwich. The variety on the menu allowed for an eclectic mix of flavors, combining Thai cuisine with classic American comfort food.
Stir Fry Review
The stir fry was vibrant and flavorful, featuring a mix of fresh vegetables like bell peppers, onions, and broccoli, all cooked to a tender yet crisp texture. The sauce had a savory, slightly sweet taste with a hint of garlic that complemented the veggies and tender pieces of chicken. It was a well-balanced dish that brought authentic Thai flavors, with just the right amount of seasoning to make the ingredients shine. If you're a fan of stir fry, this one won't disappoint.
Meatball Sub Review
The meatball sub was a bit unexpected at a Thai-inspired cafe, but it was a pleasant surprise. The bread was fresh, slightly toasted, and held up well under the saucy meatballs. The meatballs themselves were tender and flavorful, generously covered in marinara sauce and topped with melted cheese. It was a hearty and satisfying sandwich that could easily stand on its own at any classic American diner.
Chicken Sandwich Review
The chicken sandwich was another nod to American flavors, featuring a juicy chicken breast seasoned well and cooked to perfection. It came with a crisp lettuce and tomato garnish, adding freshness to the sandwich. The bun was soft and lightly toasted, making for a classic yet satisfying bite. It didn’t have any Thai twist, but it was a solid option for those looking for a familiar comfort food choice.
Overall Impression
Bangkok Grill & Knockout Cafe offers an interesting mix of Thai and American dishes, allowing diners to explore different tastes. While the stir fry stood out with its authentic flavors, the meatball sub and chicken sandwich added a fun and casual element to the meal. It's a versatile spot for those who enjoy a bit of variety in their dining experience.
Rating: 4/5
The stir fry was a highlight with its authentic taste, while the meatball sub and chicken sandwich were enjoyable for what they were, even if they didn’t exactly fit the Thai theme. If you’re up for mixing it up, it’s a good place to explore both Thai dishes and...
Read moreWe were genuinely impressed with the food at Bangkok Grill. Every dish was full of flavor and stayed true to authentic Thai cuisine. We typically order medium spice, but since the restaurant uses traditional Thai spice levels, we ordered slightly milder—and ended up being just right for our taste buds.
We ordered the Basil Fried Rice (with egg added), Panang Curry with Chicken, Tom Kha Soup, Spicy Edamame, and Shrimp Tempura. The Tom Kha was a bit different from what we’ve seen at other Thai places—it had a more broth-like consistency rather than the rich, milky texture we’re used to—but the flavor was absolutely superb. We ordered the full pot, and it came beautifully served over a small coal burner to keep it warm throughout our meal.
Similarly, the Panang Curry wasn’t as creamy as other versions we’ve tried, but the taste delivered perfectly. The Basil Fried Rice was delicious, especially with the egg added in. The Spicy Edamame was fairly simple—regular edamame sprinkled with crushed chili flakes—but still enjoyable. The Shrimp Tempura was light, crisp, and tasty.
The Thai Tea was excellent, with the perfect balance of milk, tea, and sweetness. We also tried the fresh coconut they had just received from Thailand—it was refreshing and reminded us of the coconuts found in Pakistan and India, where you can drink the water and then scoop out the tender white flesh to enjoy with it.
Overall, we loved our experience and look forward to coming back. The fact that all the food is zabiha halal—meaning the meat has been slaughtered in a compassionate, ethical, and clean manner—was a big plus. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the menu also includes items like chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, and a great selection for kids. I did notice there was a surcharge for to go boxes which I’d never see before at any restaurant so just a heads up.
Thank you, Bangkok Grill, for staying true to authentic Thai flavors while offering something...
