Sonora Cocina Express — Restaurant in Tempe

EXCELLENT!!! Let me start with this. I am coming from a family where my both parents cooked and my mom is a professional chef back home. I myself am a chef as well. I have been to many local Mexican restaurants in Arizona and around the US. This new restaurant, Sonora Cocina is a must go place! They have a simple menu and very high quality food! Everything is very authentic, fresh, served hot and very quick! One of the best menudo I ever had! And the tacos...OMG! Everything is home cooking! They have the "real" Mexican coke too! I would consider this restaurant not only for lunch but also very nice family/friend dinner gatherings. They also have Mexican snacks including very fresh smoothies! Kids love it. They have very reasonable price too.

The manager Liz is extremely helpful and friendly. Also, the place was so clean and spotless! Colorful design of the interior was very nice too. They just got a life long customer!

Born & raised in San Diego, I've lived in Tempe for 7 years now. I'm a Mexican food lover that will travel far & wide in my search for good Mexican food. Sonora Cocina Express is a 1/2 mile from my front door but I'd never been there before. All that has changed now... I've been there 3 times in the last week. What do I like about this joint? #1... it has a different menu. This is not the typical drive-thru taco shop... not the typical sit-down Mexican restaurant. #2... they serve 5 different soups... 6 days a week! #3... they serve street tacos... with 7 different meats available. #4... there are daily specials. Friday is a tamale special... and the red pork tamales are made fresh that day!

So far... I eaten the Red Pozole... Cabeza Tacos... Green Chilaquiles w/ Eggs... and the Red Menudo w/ Bread.

This place is amazing! Delicious food with great sized portions! The chicken quesadilla is literally stuffed with grilled, seasoned chicken. YUM! (The pic I have shown is not even the full portion, I ate 1/4 of it before taking the pic). They have several different, fresh salsas & guacamole which were all fantastic! They even have one SUPER spicy salsa (if you like spicy, spicy definitely check that out!). Can't remember what the cookies are called but they are wonderful! Met the owner and she is a gem!
