I have spent hundreds of dollars-but not a penny after today. I've taken their cinnamon rolls to the office & their donuts to employees of the post office. I have no complaints about the food - when they haven't failed to make enough for those wanting to buy. I will say that every employee I've encountered there has been very nice. But not the owner.
I made the mistake of paying with a credit card & got charged the amount that their credit card company charges them. My second mistake was asking if I was being charged "their credit card charges" & the owner (who was serving me - we were the only ones there) said "yes". I replied "man if I did that to my customers they would leave in droves" I was actually trying to drop a hint to the guy that maybe other folks don't like that either (in fact, there are other reviews on here that verify that). He said "well, I guess we could raise the price on the donuts" to which I said, " I think that would go over better". He told me that I "don't have to buy his donuts if I don't like it" & I said "OK, I won't" you know, like a normal person might. He then told me to "get out". Incredulous, I said "What"? & I turned on my phone camera & recorded a video of him telling me to "get out" a few more times - although he adjusted his overly-aggressive manner because he was "on the air".
Firstly, I can't think of another business that charges for this. They may be out there but I don't do business there. Who carries cash these days? Why penalize someone for not carrying cash?
Secondly, since when it is considered breaking the rules to ask a vendor to break down the charges on your receipt & express your opinion about those charges?
Thirdly - anger management sessions for the owner, maybe? He convinced me he's a real tuff-guy - (since I'm twice his apparent age).
Guess who will repeat this story whenever their name pops up... I wonder how many "bogus credit card charges" it will take for them to make up the business they just lost - with me alone...not to mention all the others I've read on here that complained about it....
As I said, I recorded the guy's unwarranted aggressiveness and will happily share it - so take any response by the owner to this with...

I've updated this review solely based on the last few visits to this establishment thinking that maybe they just had a bad day and cut them some slack. The last few visits were not just bad days and have shown that the new quality and service are now routine. It's hard to pinpoint just one breakdown in service and quality. But between being ignored, undercooked apple fritters on more than one occasion, and when you finally aren't ignored you're made to feel like you're an inconvenience. The staff seemed highly annoyed. It is apparent this is the new level of service with Beaver's Dough Joe as you can see in the reviews left by others. You can also see the attitude of service they have for their customers leaving anything less than 5 stars when replying to said reviews. With this new quality of service and quality of pastries I do not forsee Beaver's Dough Joe lasting. I was so excited to have this shop locally and had such high hopes for them. What a shame.💔
OLD REVIEW: I love the Volunteer coffee! I can drink it without cream and sugar (which I never do with other coffee) because it's not bitter! I also hate jelly filled donuts and I don't like fritters, but these aren't like anything else I've had before. I've even called ahead an order to pick up when I got there to make sure I got jelly and fritters!
They're closed on Monday and open at 6 a.m. I suggest following their Facebook page because they let you know if they've run out of donuts or if they're staying open later...
Read moreI can't begin to tell you how excited I am to have an awesome doughnut shop less than a minute away from my house. I caught the open sign unexpectedly out of the corner of my eye driving by this morning and caught their grand opening! I ordered a Vol blend coffee with one oreo doughnut and one fruity pebble doughnut, and man, I was actually surprised at how delicious they were! Fresh, flavorful, and the texture is exactly how a doughnut should be. Not to soft, not too hard, fluffy, light, yummm.. they're also massive compared to chain-style doughnut places! Can't beat that for $1.10 a piece! The coffee is brewed to perfection, and looks to be sourced by The Golden Roast which is a local coffee roaster here in Knoxville! They had two brews to choose from this morning, as I'm a lighter roast kinda guy I went with that (Vol roast), but they also offered a darker Mexican roast. They of course offer a variety of creamers, sugar, cinnamon etc. There's also a selection of custom coffee drinks for those latte and frappe folks out there as well. Don't hesitate to stop in and get breakfast,, Everyone was very friendly and service was super fast even though there was a short line when I arrived. Thanks for a great breakfast this morning...
