Let me start by saying: I love Chipotle. So when one finally opened in Terre Haute, I was genuinely excited. That excitement has now been replaced by disbelief—and a burrito I had to fight for.
Last week, I ordered ahead on the app. I showed up at my scheduled pickup time, expecting maybe a short delay. Instead, I walked into a lobby full of people who had already been waiting over an hour past their pickup times. I had to get back to work, so I cancelled through the app, got a refund, and generously assumed it was just a rough night for the staff.
Fast forward to tonight: I placed another mobile order at 8:12 PM, and to my surprise, was quoted a pickup time of 8:30. I arrived prepared for a delay—and wow, did they deliver. By 9:00 PM, my order still hadn’t moved from “in queue” to “preparing.” I finally gave up, stood in line, and went through the entire in-person ordering process. Forty-five minutes later, I had my food in hand—still with no update on the mobile order I’d already paid for.
At the register, I calmly explained that this was the same order I had already placed (and paid for) via the app. I asked them to just mark it as completed or picked up—whatever needed to happen to avoid duplicate charges. That’s when things went sideways.
Here’s the scene: one employee busting her tail folding burritos. Another working the register, mostly pressing buttons and observing. A third ferrying online orders from the back. The manager—somewhere behind the counter—yelling that anyone asking for a manager would “just have to wait.” This is the same manager, by the way, who openly called a previous (rightfully frustrated) customer “a dick.” Yes, out loud. In public.
When I explained the situation again, I was told that if I took the food I had already paid for, it would be considered “stealing.” That’s a bold accusation to make against someone holding a burrito that matches their mobile receipt exactly.
After a short, tense back-and-forth, the manager finally shouted “JUST TAKE IT,” which I did. Because I had already paid for it. On the app. An hour earlier.
Look, I want this location to succeed. I was genuinely excited to have Chipotle in Terre Haute. But until this store figures out basic operations, staffing, and how to speak to customers like actual human beings, I can’t recommend it.

Read moreSurprisingly the place was empty when I came in, actually more employees than customers yet there seemed to be some confusion about who and how my order should be made. The young lady making my burrito clearly was having difficulty wrapping up it up due to the fact that she completely overloaded it with ingredients. When I got home 10 minutes later the burrito was barely staying in the wrapper and almost ‘oozed’ out onto the table. I could only take a few bites because it was cold and bland except for the over salted chicken. I attempted to contact to restaurant but was directed to doing it online only. I drove to the restaurant, spoke to the manager, handed her the burrito and explained the issue and before I was finished she cut me off and claimed she watched the employee make the burrito, which was not true then told me in front of customers that she would have made me another burrito, but she didn’t like my attitude. No refund. No decent food. Treated like I was in the wrong for not liking what was given to me.

Read moreI’m a big Chipotle fan and was really excited when this new location opened, but unfortunately the experience has been disappointing.
Over my last three visits using the Chipotlane, I’ve consistently received the wrong order, sometimes an entirely different bowl, other times someone else’s food in a bag with my name on it. Even when the right order does show up, the rice is often undercooked and hard, and the chicken has several tough, unchewable pieces. The queso on my last two visits arrived as a cold, gelatinous chunk instead of being hot and creamy.
I’ve really tried to give this location the benefit of the doubt, especially when it was new and busy, but now that the rush has died down, the service and food quality still haven’t improved. I truly hope management takes a closer look at consistency and training — I’d love to see this location meet the standard I’ve come to expect from Chipotle.
