Donn's BBQ — Restaurant in Texas

First off, called to place an order and was placed on hold then when they picked up the phone the guy asked me what I would like to order. I told him I was looking at the menu via google and apparently that's the wrong menu so in order to get the right menu you must go to their direct website.

So anyway, he got confused and put another lady on. I said To her I'm trying to get a family meal for 6-8 people. She said ok what number is that on the menu. I said I don't know what number but whichever feeds 6-8. She acted as though she had no idea what I'm talking about. So after having a long drawn out order placed the total was read back to me and I was shocked. I said why does it say something different on google. She said that one is wrong. So I said ok what's the next family meal under that one. She she read it off and told me the price. I said ok let's just do the first order. She said ok then there was a long pause. Now I'm thinking to myself ok? So? Then she says, is that all? I respond yes that's all. She said ok then hung up. So I called back 4 times till someone answered. Not sure why it took so long when we just spoke 10seconds ago. Then she picks up. I said didn't you need my name for the order and how long is it going to be. She said what's the name. I said you didn't take it. Then she seemed to not even remember that I literally just got off the phone with her. After 3 minutes trying to jog her memory she finally remembered me and said "you said never mind". I said no I didn't. I wanted the original order we placed not the second. Then she proceeded to argue with me saying "well I told you is that all , and you said yes". I repeated myself and said no! I said to place the first order. Now at this point she became argumentative. When I asked for a manager she refused 3 times. I said put someone else on the phone and she still kept refusing. Then finally after my many attempts I get another employee (not the manager) to talk to me and I explained to him that I wanted the managers number or to have him call me. He said ok and took my information.

They seemed so reluctant to tell me the owner and managers names that I probably won't get a call back from anyone. So I will call them and I will show up until I speak to the manager and let them know about how rude, argumentative and unknowledgeable she is at...

So, let's break it down shall we. Service - Middle of the road to above average; Order was handled quickly and effeciently. Staff had suggestion of menu items. A little unsure though. Food prep was equally quick. Facilities are quite clean, with good variety of music. 6/10

Brisket (Moist) - Ordered thus, as my perference is the fatties side of the Brisket. Always has been, always will be. Problem, was, this was definitely, Lean. And, while it's not a deal breaker - it was definitely drier then it should have been. With a low flavor on the Bark, and weak smoke. Gonna have to say, this was not a great selection, or not a great cut. 3/10

Chopped Chicken - Very Dry. No flavor. No smoke. And DROWNED, in sauce. I'm perfer my smoked meats, to receive a coating towards the end of the cook to caramelize the sugar and absorb some of the smoke itself. When done right, it's exquisite. But this, was definitely an attempted cover up of poorly crafted chicken. 1/10

Pork Ribs - Probably the best thing on the plate. Smoke was present, but not over power. The fat, and meat were just right so they added to each other. With seasoning that was also on a level, I'd expect to see from a business that been around near 40 years. Kudos. 7/10

Mac'n'Cheese - Bland, with no seasoning. Elbow Mac, and Cheese Sauce good Mac does not make. Do better, it isn't hard to add salt, pepper, and garlic, with shredded cheddar. Mac, is a staple for most BBQ place. 4/10

Mashed Potato /w Gravy - Probably the most heinous act you can perform is offering, Baked Potatoes. Then using Instant Mash, for your Mashed Potatos. Further, white gravy is not difficult to produce, and with just a glance around the facility I can see that you've the ingredients. You don't need to by the bulk gravy, like a Grandy's. 2/10

In closing folks, my major complaint is that while this place seems to recieve good points per review. It, is not as good as the rating system would lead you to expect. Is it worth a try, meh - maybe. Your mikeage may vary. Would I go back home and tell my family about it. Sure, but we'd definitely not return business here anytime soon....

Excellent food, good portion and reasonably priced. I am eating the Chopped Brisket Sandwich Meal which includes 2 sides. The Mashed Potatoes are real, not instant. Impressive.

I saw a catering vehicle in the rear, so they can help you in that department. It's family friendly having high chairs and booster seats. They have 4 separate tables that seat 4. And 4 sets of community type of seating, tables next to each other.

There is a handicap ramp, I did not notice but believe that the have handicap parking. The place is nicely decorated in a western theme.

They have coolers of all types of soft drinks and fresh iced tea, sweet and unsweetened.

The menu is vast, so get ready to enjoy your dining experience. There are families here, a couple of gentlemen and myself.

The parking is plentiful and I parked on the side of the building for ease of dealing with traffic. I noticed that the parking in front of the restaurant is large enough to turn around. So we dont have to back up on a busy street.

Very enjoyable experience. They also have 2 TVs on different channels to entertain you, if you eat alone as I am currently doing.

I now see a sign, Enjoy a Hand Dipped Blue Bell Ice Cream cone. I've only eaten part of my sandwich and I am full. The sweet tea is really good, too. They have a neat plastic silverware dispenser that I've never seen before....but I am moving to a large city after being in a 20k town for the last 19 years. Maybe these have been around and I have never seen them. One pushes the button and a fork, knife or spoon is dispensed in a holder for the taking.
