I've been to Doxa a few times in the last few months and this recent visit's experience has weighed heavily on my mind. I usually order a cappucino or iced coffee. I was interested in their cortado and have had it elsewhere and it was made differently. To ensure I know what I'm getting, I asked what was in the cortado and the lady taking my order who was so nice up until this point, and switched her mood. She didn't seem to like my question and looked me down and very slowly explained what a cortado was, as if I needed to be spoken to slowly. I felt uncomfortable and just said that I have had a few cortados elsewhere and she just kept the same face. When I received my drink, I noticed I wanted it to be a bit sweeter so I asked if they could add more, and even offered to pay since I understand it was an extra. Another girl who was working here stared me down and just nodded her head and rolled her eyes and added it. She shot down my offer to pay extra. I remained polite and thanked her for accommodating me, but neither of their attitudes changed. I could tell that neither of the wanted me to be there, and they did not want to speak to me

I just don't understand how my questions and requests needed to be met with disrespect. As someone who is branching out on where to get coffee in Austin or ordering a new drink, this is so stifling. Not everyone is going to know how YOU make your cortados. Asking questions eliminates a returned drink, however these weren't welcomed either.

Everyone knows South Austin is where the culture is at, this feeling and how Doxa presented themselves does not...

If you’re looking for your Starbucks without wanting to support them, this is your place. Unfortunately not mine, but solely due to preference.

As most people prefer, Doxa makes the traditional American coffee comparable to other major chains. This comes with a bold, almost acidic espresso, likely due to either a darker roast or preparation. While not at all as burnt tasting as Starbucks, it is still somewhat acidic. So again, for your normal coffee drinker, this is perfectly fine since it’s what we’re used to.

I would love to try again since it’s so close if the espresso was dialed in a little more to the creamier side. Maybe a lighter roast or adjusting the puck prep would help.

I can’t give anything lower than a 4 simply cuz they did nothing...

Went there around 1:30 on 9/21/24 and there was a really sweet girl who helped me order my coffee. I asked if they could do a cold foam and the girl was trying her best to help me out and make a coffee I would like. As the girl is trying to make my coffee another girl that worked there walked past the window saying “this isn’t Starbucks” as if I wasn’t right there. It was extremely rude. She than proceeds to kinda raise her voice at the girl whom was making my coffee telling her “we don’t do cold foam” and the poor girl was like well we could try! Such a shame. First time at doxa and will most...

Tries for the first time and got a delicious 12 oz vanilla latte. Will be back. 🙂

Coffee was really great, the menu is a pretty typical coffee menu, with a small selection of pastries for sale. I hate not to give them 5 stars, but there's a few things to work on. Cold brew was good, but my light splash of cream was a rather heavy splash. Cappuccino was good, but we were not asked about the milk type till about 5 minutes later. I also noticed other customers who ordered before others but didn't get their coffee until after them. Small order of operations issues, but I'll definitely be back and update my review then.
