For a place that specializes in katsus and dons, I was severely disappointed by the execution of the dishes.
Small but cozy interior. There were not a lot of people during lunch. Took a little bit to get our food out but the wait wasn't bad. I liked the variety of donburi and katsu choices on the menu. Appetizers seemed a little expensive.
I got karaage for my appetizer and pork katsudon for my main. Karaage wasn't bad. The coating was crispy and the chicken tasted nice. Not the best I've had but perfectly acceptable. My katsudon, on the other hand, was extremely disappointing. While I loved the flavor of the rice mix, the actual katsu was a disappointing, wet, glob of meat. The panko layer was falling off as I picked up the meat and I could see how soaked it looked from the minute I got the dish. The actual pork cutlet wasn't bad but could've been juicier. But the crispy crunch that I expected to hear when I bite into a perfect katsu never happened.
Overall, I don't think I can return because there's plenty of other places that you can get...
Read moreI absolutely love spending my money at this restaurant, my gal and I come multiple times a month. Jun's customer service and food is unmatched. Han's is located in a plaza, so parking can be scarce if the other suites are busy. Seating and decor is minimal, yet pleasing. We always start our meals off with edame, a few orders of chicken karaage. The chicken karaage is to die for, and easily the best south of Austin. I always go with the miso ramen, sometimes the extra large bowl for an additional +$4. The bowl is filled with a deep & rich pork / miso broth, two fish cakes, egg, sweet corn, green onions and other veggies. The My gal loves the Katsu Don which is a bed of steam rice, soy sauce, mirin, onion, pickled radish, a fried pork cutlet topped with an egg and green onions. We've had the Korean fried chicken wings which were to die for, but it is recommended you order those ahead as they can take quite a while to come out. However, they are to die for, I like the plain ones...
Read moreI Came for my friend’s birthday with a party of 6, it is a small little place with a couple of tables, but feels good. There was not a wait when we got there but by the end the place was full! I ordered the curry, which was alright. I felt like there was not enough actual chicken. Flavor wise it was fine, wish it was spicier tho.
Menu said it came with a croquette but it wasn’t served (which whatver I had forgotten about it anyway but would’ve loved to try it).
I also had an appetizer which was also alright, nothing too exciting.
Personally don’t think I would come back for the ramen, my friend ordered the fried oysters and said it was really good, so maybe I will come back and try something else. But overall the ramen was okay. Service is great here, served was really nice and fast.
Overall Hans katsuya is not my favorite, but is not a place to hate either. I’m glad I got to try it , and might come back to try...
