A solid 5 ⭐️ This will go down as one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. I found the place using Google maps, I was looking for a place for lunch around the area we were visiting and decided I was going to try frog legs because YOLO. We were visiting Spring Creek Gardens and checking out some local boutiques around the area for a girls day trip. It was a beautiful Texas day on 10/7/23 as it was the first day of relief from months and months of the 90-100 degree weather and was only in the 70’s, it was beautiful outside. We arrived for lunch and there was no problem parking. I loved the way the building looked as we walked in. We walked in to be greeted by the hostess and we requested outdoor seating. I didn’t spend much time inside but I noticed the atmosphere had a rustic feel and there was a huge mural on one of the walls, I wanted to take a picture of a lot of things with this being one of them but didn’t want to bother people eating. We sat down looking at the menus, which I thought the presentation of that was perfect, easy to read with no stress and I noticed the back of the menu and the table and it gave me a true rustic Texas feel. (Picture) When all the sudden I hear a chicken, OMG! Are you serious! Could this experience get any more authentic!!! Yes, yes it could! Because a little bit later a spread out Turkey comes walking into my view and I was like noooo way! It was so cool to see up close. So by this time, I’ve had the chance to absorb the coolness of this place and calm down lol. The waitress took our order, which we had fun with because I was such a newb at ordering frog legs, they come in pairs lol! Hey, now I’m a professional at ordering frog legs. I ordered a burger and fries as well. We were waiting for our food and one of the chickens comes strolling up on the deck which again I thought was really cool and very authentic, someone had a pair of doggies with them and I noticed it waited until they left to come up on the deck. And side note, we met another Pokémon Go player and we battled a shadow Zapdos so that was some extra fun while waiting for our food. The food comes out and the frog legs were actually very good, I was so surprised! The fries were actually great and the burger was good too. My friends really enjoyed their food as well, I remember one commenting how awesome the gravy and mashed taters were. So here’s what really topped it off for me…when the waitress started listing the dessert menu and said Boston Cream Pie, I about lost it! Can this place get any better?!? Yes. Yes it can! Boston Cream Pie is my all time favorite dessert and it was very good! That was the best way to end an amazing experience. Some other things I noticed was the staff are very nice and they did very well at their jobs, particularly the hostess, waitress, busser that we encountered. I cannot wait to...
Read moreWe try to come here at least twice a month I do like their steak, The last few times it has been subpar and I don’t complain, (As I know it can be hard to find reliable help these days)
Today I order the steak, medium rare, it came out medium well, I asked her waitress for a new one and gave her my plate with all of the food on it, (Steak, butter, jalapeño, onion, mushroom, etc.) She went back to the kitchen and was back at my table side and less than a minute with a new steak? Not sure how they got that so quickly but this one was even worse than the first it was like eating shoe leather. (It was cold and obviously have been sitting back there for a while… Probably because somebody else returned it prior) She offered to Bring back the first steak because they are out of steak at this point.? Hmmmm
(not sure how that happens at 7 o’clock on a Thursday, but I guess it does)
Unfortunately, for me, the first steak was already thrown away, so…My choice was to either choke down the shoe leather or order something new,. My wife was basically halfway through with her meal before I got the second horrible steak I told her to leave it and I can pick at it I did eat the two side dishes. They were great. The bill came and I was charged full price for me. I couldn’t even consume. I told her I didn’t feel I needed to pay for that because both of the orders were almost inedible She took half off because I did eat some of the steak she said I didn’t argue with her as I typically dont do that in public
I did call the restaurant and spoke with Maddi , I told her my story about how fast the second state came out, completely over salted, dry, etc. and she said she’ll talk to the kitchen about it
Not sure what that’s gonna do since I think it was handled completely wrong. I guess she thought it was OK that I paid for half of a meal that I couldn’t even consume
She was gonna talk to the manager and call me back … Never heard from Anybody… I’m a little disappointed that they choose to lose a consist customer over $10.
But that’s the way it...
Read moreWe go fairly often to ANTLER’s Cafe , today ( Sunday) we brought our second oldest granddaughter ( Who is deaf). My wife & I ordered the beef enchiladas & granddaughter ordered a burger & fries. The waitress was a McKenzie who’s service was good but a couple of things that bothered me but I did not bring to her attention: 1- we asked if the online menu was different as it stated the enchiladas came w beans, rice & chips w cheese dip. She asked if it was their online menu to which we stated it was since we just told her it was. She replied it was not updated and meal came w chips & salsa.
2- when it came to pay I asked her if she preferred cash or tip on card would be ok. She replied that cash is always better which from our experience as we dine out quite often is usually the reply. But some say they get their típ at the end of the shift so either is ok. Well I gave her a $50 to break for me, she brought a $10 & two $20’s. This really irritated me as she stated “ Is this ok or should I break it further “? I was going to ask her the logic in not breaking it further in the first place but I didn’t want to make a scene as my intentions was to tip her $15 for the good service. So, I said keep the $10 .
Assumptions are not always the way to go and I’m guessing she felt comfortable that her service was worth at least $10 or saw us as customers that might just tip her less if she initially brought more denominations then she did.
Since we dine out at least 3 times a week being both retired we enjoy a great meal & service is most important to us so we are generous and at a minimum tip 25% & if exceptional we go up to 35% as two of our children have worked in the food business. So it was Mckinzie’s loss this time….
Thank you Santiago Sanchez...
