Ruby's Soul Food — Restaurant in Thornton Township

We came to this restaurant BUSINESS with a great expectation of having some good old fashioned SOULFOOD! HOWEVER!!! That was not the case. We were placing our order on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 3:15pm, Now, on Sunday this is all Black people look for is some good old home cooked SOULFOOD! As we began to order the server/Cashier, told us that they were out of rice, sweet potatoes, cornbread dressing, mash potatoes, no fresh cornbread. It seemed as if they were out of everything. We were able to get some Mac and cheese and some collard greens for sides, and short ribs of beef, and cat fish filets. However, the Mac and Cheese was terrible it had the appearance but NO taste whatsoever of Mac and cheese. Need a lot of work. The Collard Greens taste like a can of "Glory Greens" not fresh greens. Short Rib were tender but looked strange. The Catfish filets were tasty. They had no plate everything was served "to-go" We sat and waited and the server very nice brought our to go food out to the table. We asked for extra napkins and it seemed like she brought us back some paper towels. Our drinks were inside a refrigerator next to the cash register in a bottle. Nonetheless, it seems that the owners should be on sight to manage their busy. We were not impressed with our visit. In fact we will not be back after that experience. If we had to rate this business it would not get one for it was half...

Went here for lunch and the good was good. My fiancé got the salmon croquet potatoes and eggs. I got because well.2 smothered pork chops potatoes and sweet potatoes. I finished 1 chop and it was still hot but the second 1 was cold. The sweet potatoes tasted like it was microwaved. But the potatoes was GREAT. Can’t hold any of them at fault. They are so friendly and busy things happens. But I will still go back. I just ask that you get some lemons. Other than that thank you guys for some good soul food. See you again. Came back 01/21/24 and now the experience is poor. They have a new girl with no customer service she’s rude and inexperienced. Placed my order on the phone and was told 15 minutes is been 30 minutes. Can’t come back if this little girl is here. She knows nothing about customer service she wants to argue with customers as if she knows everything instead of listening to what someone is saying. My husband and I went to Rubys on Thursday, May 16th. I ordered 6 wings and he ordered 2 jerk egg rolls. After waiting for 45 minutes, my husband asked how much longer. They told him “a few more minutes “. My husband then asked another patron how long they had waited and they said an hour. The young lady at the register then said “be patient! My husband looked at me and said oh no she didn’t. She said “oh yes I did!” I then approached the register and told her that she doesn’t get to have an attitude because we are asking about our food. She then began to go off saying she isn’t in the kitchen cooking and if we don’t want to wait then leave. An older lady came from the kitchen to the register to calm her down. I told the older lady that this is not who you should have greeting guest with that attitude. They handed us our food which looked like it had been just sitting.
