EDITORIAL REMARK - reply to owner’s response: Froelich’s blames our budget for their incompetence. However, we paid exactly what they asked for on our settled menu. Froelich’s admitted they were inexperienced and used our wedding as a learning tool. Given this, they incompetently handled our wedding (see below). Please note - Froelich’s never once told us of this inexperience. Had I known, I would not have chosen their venue.
ORIGINAL REVIEW WITH EDITS:
Had my wedding here 2 years ago. It’s taken me time to write this review, because of how upset I was. I’ll start with the good and move to the bad.
The good: The venue is gorgeous, spacious, and perfect for photos. Parking is easy and plentiful.
The bad: Extremely poor service, bland food, poor food and drink planning, and unprofessional attitude.
My wedding reception was a brunch buffet with simple breakfast menus like eggs and bacon. We purchased the highest drink package they had which had no limit on beer and mimosas. We paid for approximately 140 guests. 10 LESS guests came to our wedding but we did not tell the venue to reduce the food or drink, because we figured better to have more than less. For the settled upon menu, We paid EXACTLY what Froelich’s asked us to pay for 140 guests.
On my wedding day, Froelich’s still had their regular restaurant open for brunch, which was packed. They likely did not have kitchen capacity or enough food to supply both the full restaurant and 130 of my guests.
This poor planning was painfully evident in the food being an hour late to arrive, running short of food and alcohol, the stressed out staff, and a chaotic demand for money mid wedding.
LATE FOOD: when my wedding planner went to check on what the delay was, they were extremely rude to her. They told her to go away, but did not have any solutions.
SHORT FOOD/ALCOHOL: Despite paying MORE for LESS people, the venue somehow RAN OUT of food and alcohol.
CHAOTIC DEMAND FOR MONEY: Then in the middle of my wedding reception they asked me for more money to purchase more alcohol. I was in my wedding dress, had guests to entertain, and of course did not have my wallet with me. Even still they demanded more money right then and there. They should have asked me AFTER my wedding. My guests were hungry, there were long wait times for drinks, and I had an owner shaking me down for more money. Their chaotic and embarrassing behavior made my day unnecessarily stressful.
UNPROFESSIONALISM: When I spoke with the owner to express my dissatisfaction and disappointment, she was dismissive and did not take any responsibility. In reply to their response below, I’ve reviewed my invoices and correspondences and see that Froelich’s response is not only unprofessional, but false and misleading. Again, after agreeing on a set menu, we paid EXACTLY what they asked. I am once again disappointed by Froelich’s 2 years later. Every anniversary I have, I am forced to think about how poorly we were treated on my wedding day. It’s a ruined memory.
I am also removing a star for their unprofessional handling of my review. My wedding guest, Brittney, reviewed Froelich’s giving them 2 stars. Andrew reached out to her privately to try and rectify the situation. Instead of affording me the same courtesy they reply inferring that their incompetence was my budget’s fault.
CONCLUSION: To any brides thinking of booking this...
Read moreWe drove from the Chicago suburbs to Three oaks to meet friends from MI for brunch. I asked about the frittata of the day; red peppers, mushrooms and Swiss cheese, all things I can eat. When it came it had a green sauce on top and greens in it. I scraped the sauce to the side and tried the frittata, but could not identify greens. When we could catch the waiter he went to the kitchen and returned with a paper and read fresh basil and frisee lettuce, and pesto. I cannot eat basil so I asked for a new one with just red peppers, mushrooms and Swiss cheese. He said all they could make was a scrambled egg with Swiss cheese. He later returned with just the egg, overflowing off a small dish, like a saucer. I asked for a bigger plate to put under it as food falling on the table isn’t polite and asked where the potatoes now were? So then he asks if I wanted some? Well I did to begin with so probably “yes”. All the other 3 ladies were finished with their food and I am getting piecemeal breakfast. I declined the potatoes and ate my little egg offering. When the bill came for $5.50 plus $2.00 for lemonade I felt this small amount should be complimentary as I was not told what was in my food and served an allergen. Pesto often has pine nuts, walnuts or almonds in it which definitely needs to be noted. I felt the manager could have sent over a dessert treat to share at the table for the mistake. So as the others browsed the gift shop I sat on a bench in front drinking water and taking Imodium, wondering when in my car trip I would become ill. Any restaurant needs to take food allergies seriously as THEY ARE. I finally figured out they could make me another frittata as it was most likely a frozen prepared...
Read moreYesterday I entered Froehlich’s Kitchen & Pantry to buy carry-out lunch. The young man at the greeting desk told me they did not prepare carry-outs when they were busy. Rather than direct me to their deli at the back of the restaurant (at the time, a first visit in this place, I did not know they had a carry-out deli), he went to ask if the kitchen would accept a carry-out order.
The kitchen said yes and he gave me a menu. There was nothing I wanted, like a simple turkey or tuna fish sandwich or salad, but I ordered a fried shrimp po’boy and a baked salmon quinoa/kale salad.
While waiting for the food, I walked to the rear of the building, where I found a deli that served exactly what I wanted!! And at 1/2 the price of the two items I had already ordered.
I was furious—why didn’t this greeter send me to the deli when I asked for a carry-out order? I waited a very long time for the food to be prepared— a young waitress assisted me as I paid $42. for the food plus tax and tip, the bill was $55.00!!
The food was horrible: the po’boy was dry bread sheltering 7 tiny fried shrimp, no sauce or mayo, and soggy tasteless french fries . The salmon on the salad may have been 2 ounces ( a measly portion for a $22.00 salad) and the “salad” was warm mushy kale, mixed with quinoa and had no seasoning at all! Disgusting and very EXPENSIVE!!
I would likely have been happy with the deli menu had I been informed of it when I inquired about carry-out! This establishment is a poorly managed place when the person greeting a customer cannot inform a first-time patron of the options for dining! A MISERABLE EXPERIENCE AND DISGUSTING EXPENSIVE FOOD! Avoid this place for lunch — A...
