EDIT: added to the end.
OK, I finally got to try the new restaurant. I'm a local so I want to be fair but accurate. I also worked in restaurants years ago, so I know what to expect.
Party of 5. Lunch service. Counter order and delivered to the table.
Surprising, no one ordered anything on the really higher end on the menu. Mainly because the mid-priced items are more of a "southern staples" selection.
The most popular choice among our group was fried catfish and fries. While I really like fish, fried catfish is not normally my first choice. However, this was really, really good catfish. Very fresh and not the least bit fishy tasting.
Personally, I ordered a grilled Salmon salad. Also, really, really good. Not just a bowl of lettice and tomatoes. A wonderful assortment of ingredients. I had the house dressing and it was amazing. I'll go back for this dish alone. Understand, I'm a big meat eater. I eat salads because their healthy and I'm old. Not because I am a big veggie eater. This thing was good.
Let me add something about their sauces. Apparently, they make their own sauces in-house. House dressing, tarter sauce, etc. They all taste amazing. It's really amazing as in go there for the sauces if nothing else. ESPECIALLY the house dressing. Perfect on their excellent salad.
Now the bad. Understanding it is a new place, and I suspect much of the " bad" will disappear quickly.
The grilled salmon salad. I will be requesting a larger fish portion next time. I fully expect to pay extra for it. I just want a bit more fish in the salad.
Carry out sauce containers are appropriately sized. Surprisingly, sauce portions when dinning in are a bit skimpy. While the house dressing is to die, for it's a bit thin and runny.
The service. I realize that they really don't do table service. I think with this menu that they might have missed the mark. Personally, I would have gladly paid more for it. It would just "feel" right. This food is so good it deserves table service. It's almost like they haven't decided if they want to be a restaurant or a fast food joint.
Also, if I'm waiting for you to cook up a meal please don't rush out my dessert. By the time we've eaten the chilled pie is warm and the whipped cream has melted. Delivering dessert to the table first doesn't work well with some dishes.
Finally, bigger cups, please.
All in all, it was an excellent experience. So of the best food to be had locally. They will definitely be seeing too much of me.
EDIT: I haven't been by in over a year for personal reasons. Went the other evening. Didn't realize how much I missed this place.
Went with the awesome dish and fries. Great, as expected My wife got an alfredo dish. Very good. I think they should try a quick steam on the vegetables before adding them, but that's 100% personal preference. Gumbo! Tried the gumbo. Gumbo is that dish that if you try it a hundred different places, it will taste different a hundred different times. I liked it. Oh, and they changed to larger glasses. Good move.
But the greatest improvement......TABLE SERVICE! Better yet, GOOD table service. It really made it feel nicer.
My big suggestion, fit in a couple of small tables. You're gonna need...
Read moreThere is quite a bit to unpack here so let's start with the good. The atmosphere is perfect, just spaced out enough to be comfortable, perfect decorations and a good soundscape. The paper towels as napkins are common in southern Oklahoma, I don't like it but I won't dock points for it.
There is some bad stuff however. First off, our food was spicy for some reason, like all of it, even the French fries. Even the grilled zucchini was spicy, I don't understand why either. My fish was dry and thin but I was trying something new so I'll give it a pass. The drink selection was strange and not what you expect in a seafood place. I will probably come back some time to try more of the food on selection but overall impression is not...
Read moreCute, clean, inviting and laid back! I should have taken a picture of my plate because it was beautiful, but I got so excited when I saw my Mahi Mahi that I forgot. It is delicious! I am always hesitant to order seafood in a landlocked state, but the fish is fresh and cooked nicely. I have seen so many positive reviews I had to stop on my way home.
They have a cute little bar, but it's somewhere you can definitely bring the family to as well. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and I love nothing better than a great neighborhood place! I...
