Guys, this needs to stop.
The past few times I've come to Chick-Mex, an employee (different employees each time) serving me told me the following things: (1) that employees do not ordinarily take part in the "tip jar" near the register; (2) that employee tips are contingent upon receiving positive Google or Yelp reviews; and (3) that if I posted a positive review online and specifically mentioned that employee by name, he would receive a five-dollar tip.
First, I don't know to what extent all this information is accurate. But I certainly hope it's not true that employee tips are entirely contingent on positive reviews of their service. When there is a tip jar at the register, customers expect that tips are fairly distributed among the employees working that day.
More to the point, this policy does not promote good customer service. I come to Chick-Mex for lunch because the food is delicious, the service is fast and efficient, and I can grab a quick bite to eat between classes. I do not go there to get a homework assignment. I do not go to be told that I will be depriving an employee of potential earnings if I do not complete said homework assignment. Again, I'd like to believe employees are paid fairly regardless of whether I write a google review about them. Can you imagine if every restaurant on campus had a policy like this? Students would be so busy writing restaurant reviews they'd barely have time for their studies!
To all the employees who have asked me to write a review -- you guys are doing a great job. You're working hard to provide the best food you can get on campus. But, to the management, I seriously think this policy should be reconsidered as it makes the overall experience of eating here kind of uncomfortable. Please see that employees are compensated adequately and that tips are...
Read moreMy review is for the cashier at the restaurant, the food itself was great. I was told by the server to wait for 5 minutes for the tomato and onion salsa to get prepared and I was waiting as he told me to. Then the cashier just came to the cash register and told me to pay for the food. I said I was still waiting for the salsa. She started going off on a completely different tangent and saying something about something costs extra. She clearly did not even try to listen to what I was saying. Then the server who had told me to wait told her that I was actually waiting for the salsa. Then she made up a story that they are out of it. And then she had the gall to tell me that I was new here so I misunderstood. No, it was you who misunderstood and who had no patience to listen to a customer who was waiting on your server's instructions. You should have apologized and told me you were out of the salsa, no problem! You don't have to try and blame and get away, please don't...
Read moreThis branch of Chick Mex is located inside my college SUNY University at Buffalo's campus, in the UB Commons area alongside other good restaurants, clothing, accessories shops etc. Went here for the first time to get some dinner last weekend one night, two staff serving in the shop during that time were very polite, attentive, welcoming, and very friendly. Got a 'halal chicken over rice, which I would recommend with either any other protein as I would chicken. The staff did not mind adding more than one sauce on it when I asked them to. Also got a monster burrito, and both of them tasted so good and fresh. There were tables and chairs when I got to the shop several minutes before 9pm, so no customers were there, but I can guarantee the service and atmosphere in general would be very friendly, welcoming, comforting...
