Came here on a Saturday night for a quick dinner with a few friends. Overall, Dancing Chopsticks is a decent Chinese/Japanese restaurant. I tried a meat sampler, which had a choice of two meats (several beef, pork, chicken options cooked as katsus or with teriyaki sauce). I ordered a Tokyo Chicken and a Pork Katsu, which came out to be a little under $9.
The food came pretty quickly, in a hefty square styrofoam takeout box. The meats rested on top of a large portion of white rice, taking up half of the box. The rest of the box included a lettuce salad (not too sure what the dressing was) and corn in another light, white sauce.
The Food: I would have liked the Tokyo chicken more if the batter was crispier. It did hit my craving of an Orange Chicken variant, although this chicken was a little tangier than a General Tso's or Sesame chicken variation. As for the pork katsu, the breading was quite thick, making it dense. Most of it was crispy still, other than the portions that had some tonkatsu sauce drizzled onto it. I ended up taking some of their house sauce (which tastes heavily of gochujang) and dipping the katsu into that. The rice sufficed, I didn't detect any partially cooked hard grains. The salad and corn seemed to be the least memorable parts, I ate them hoping for some trace nutrients to be added to my meal.
Additional amenities: They offer self serve hot tea, their house sauce and bottles of Sriracha. Seating in the restaurant is also quite spacious. I did not try any other drinks there, though they have numerous refrigerated drinks and also bubble milk teas.
If I study around UB more, I'll probably end up trying more things on their menu like a noodle soup, yaki soba or their rice bowls. Worth a shot for...
Read moreThe food is okay although I mainly go there just for the sushi and bubble tea. For my bubble tea, i normally order taro bubble tea and I've always had to tell them to ADD MORE taro powder and put LESS ice. It depends on who is making the bubble tea. The last bubble tea i ordered was made by the short girl who added so little taro powder and added a large amount of ice which made the tea taste like water. -_- I had to tell her the next day i ordered bubble tea to add more taro powder and less ice and she looked annoyed. That's also another downside. The staff is kind of rude to customers who doesn't have an Asian background, and by Asian background i mean, Japan, S. Korea, or China. The staff also speaks to each other in their language about customers who don't speak or understand the language. And they would end up laughing. I know this because its happened to me. All in all, I would only visit this place again if I'm short on cash and in need of bubble tea otherwise I'd be at...
Read moreEverything was very disappointing. We got two Bento boxes delivered and a side of tokyo chicken
Both our entrees were strange in color. The chicken terriaki was a grey brown, and the katsu calamari was dark brown, and obviously overcooked in old oil. Ive had both at other restaurants and they never tasted like this. The calamari was literally too tough to chew. The tokyo chicken was also overcooked, tough and mostly breading.
Both types of dumplings were bad. The gyoza style ones were stale and tough. The steamed dumpling were tasteless mush.
Even the rice tasted stale. I really feel everything they serve was old, stale or freezer burned. Normally I might give a place the benefit of the doubt, but not a single item...
