Shah's Food Afghani Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Amherst

What a wonderful surprise. My friend and I took a chance with this random google find today because neither of us have had Afghani food before. Saying it was a nice change is an understatement. You can taste the fresh ingredients and the love behind this food. I personally ordered the Lamb Halabi Kabab, and being the foodie I am, I usually take lots of pictures. The presentation was humble, but I only had to taste the rice and it was game over. I was licking my plate clean when I remembered that I wanted to take pictures 😅. I personally never get tea or dessert at a restaurant because I’m cheap and have those things at home. I could not resist ordering the baklava with their Arabic tea just to try. It did NOT disappoint ❤️. I’m so sad to have blissfully forgotten to take any pictures, I plan to return again later this week. The building has no sign on it but it’s the one with the restaurants food truck parked in front. In talking to the gentleman inside they are open for service are in the works of finishing setting up. No one should care how it looks, you only need to taste the food and you’ll be blind.

Terrible experience during Iftar!

We called and place an order for an iftar for 3 people 40 mins prior and the owner (Shah) was on the line confirmed it. Then when we arrived at the store 5 mins before the iftar, the cashier said they never received the order. Then we talked to the owner in the back and he said he was busy somewhere else and there is no iftar. So we ended up waiting for 20 mins to get the food!

Also, about the food, it was good since we all were very hungry. But I would it was NOT the best Mandy we had ever had. Certainly it had very less spice and also the quantity of meat was not at all justified by the price charged! Not to mention, we specifically said "No Tomato" in gyro and to give us hot sauce, ended up getting tomatoes everywhere with no hot sauce in the platter!

They really need more training on order taking, customer services, and justifying the quantity for price. Not going back even for a...

We had a mixed experience here. The food was good, The atmosphere was not bad, but the service was very lacking.

We ordered a couple lamb and chicken dishes. They were hot and tasty. The lamb and chicken were nicely seasoned. No complaints about the food.

The atmosphere was alright. The space was much bigger than what I seen fron pictures so that was a good surprise.

The service was the main reason for my 3 star review. There wasn't really a welcoming vibe. We sat down and looked at the menu. No one came to ask for what we wanted for drinks. Some time later, we were asked what we wanted to eat. We explained our order and added that we all wanted water to drink. The food took a really long time to arrive. The water never came until we asked again after the food came. The server came back with bottled water.
