My family has been weekending in Athens since 1976. We've all seen restaurants and businesses come and go over the years. This place has much better prices then the last restaurant that was in this building. My wife and I picked up breakfast from here this past Sunday and I left a slightly perplexed. We ordered on their website because we were trying to get back home on Long Island before Tropical Storm Henri came to town but ordering ahead did nothing to speed up the process. I ordered the Southwestern Burrito but I didn't want pico de gallo on it. So in the area bellow were you can write notes with the online order I wrote, "No pico de gallo, add bacon." Don't you know that when I arrived, 15 minutes later, that lovely lady behind the counter told me my order was not made yet. She informed me that the burritos are pre-made and can not be changed. Then why have a section where you can write in order notes! AHHHH some things in the world just make me shake my head, and then I say to my self relax, there are greater wrongs in the world. Plus I can write a review. The lady informed me that I basically wanted a BEC Burrito off their menu and offered me that with a side of black beans. Of course I said yes because that exactly what I wanted, so I just figured I would pour the beans on with each bite I took in the car. 10 minutes later my order was ready. I also ordered two Hot Chocolates which were amazing. This Burrito was pretty great too. Yet, the bean this lady gave me, were chilled to the bone, if beans had bones. So the head shaking started again but I was already on the road and there was nothing I could do. At this point my wife started to laugh at me so I just gave my puppy Shih Tzu the beans and he loved them. Food was great, drinks were great, but the service/menu manipulations not happening. I'm going to give it another try when I'm back up there for Labor Day Weekend with the knowledge I have now and I will order without excepting to add or subtract any listed ingredients. BTW go visit Athens!...
Read moreWhat can I say about The Athens Rooster. I moved to Athens back in September not knowing anyone or anything about this town. The Rooster was one of the first places I tried.
I don’t know what it is about The Rooster.
It could be the food. The freshly made pizza (The Greene County specifically is delicious), The southwest breakfast burrito (when I can manage to get up early enough), or the always refreshing iced mochas.
It could be the service. The staff is some of the most positive, effective, genuine group of people you’ll ever meet. Serving the town consistently and taking pride in their work, as well as their food. No matter how busy they are, The Rooster seems to always treat you like you’re their favorite customer.
The Rooster is more than a café to get coffee and pastry(I recommend the lemon poppyseed cake). The Rooster truly feels like home. I’ll always cherish all the friends and memories I’ve made here. I’d recommend...
Read moreI am so happy this place opened in Athens. My fave are breakfast burrito, whitefish salad toast and avocado toast. I can’t wait to try lunches. Highly recommend this gem and service is exceptional. Thank you! Wishing lots of success and happy customers. Edit: I wanted to share how amazing and delicious Hanukkah dinner to order was: braised brisket was so tender, flavorful and melts in the mouth; latkes was a pure delight, so light and Delicious, fennel salad was so fresh and so crisp; rugelach was out of this world, so beautifully made. This is a Superior quality meal to have. I can’t stress enough how talented these chefs are and so appreciative of their dedication to provide great feast and everyday meals to...
