Food: 4/5 - Gelato's are good. Not spectacular but good. They are firm. I prefer the Gelato to be slightly soft. You can try the flavors. Many are tasty. The spoons are VERY small and cheap. Feels like the sample spoon. I would prefer more of the add-ins. For example, more Pistashio or Cherry's.
Atmosphere: 2/5 - Seating is very limited. Outside seating is pretty basic. I usually get it to go and sit in a nearby park to eat it.
Service: 3/5 - They give you a cookie with the Gelato, but it is hit or miss. There's not good consistency. They aren't going out of their way to offer you more tastes. There's typically one person behind the counter and if there are other people in the establishments, there's a sense to move along and not try different flavors.
Cleanliness: 4/5 - No notable problems but not spotless. Not sure if there's a rest room.
Parking: 3/5 - Small lot outside. Some additional parking in rear. Can be tight.
Value; 4/5 - You get some nice ice cream for about $6 or so, depending on size.
Overall: 3/5 - A Solid place to pick up Gelatio. Recommendation for establishment: I would prefer it if they stored the ice cream a few degrees warmer so that it was served softer. Also a better engagement to find new flavors would be good. If you're going to serve a cookie, make sure it's consistent.
I'll be back but would be there more frequently if the above items...
Read moreThe short 5'4 Italian man who works here doesn't know how to scoop gelato. He gives the absolute smallest scoops known to man. Anytime he's here and I come, I let out a deep sigh and my wallet cries knowing I'm about to get next to no gelato because he doesn't scoop enough gelato. I recommend coming here when Kara or Maria are here. They actually know how to scoop and serve a decent amount of gelato. If he learns how to scoop properly, this place gets 5 stars.
Update January 30th, 2025: I come here often, but I'm just updating it today because the old man was here again when I showed up. He lied before and told me his name was John when his name is actually Tony (maybe it was the other way around, but all I know is he lied because after he told me his name, another customer came in and greeted him by his actual name). Very weird behavior, so not only does he not know how to scoop ice cream, he also is a liar. He was very unfriendly and snooty to some of the customers. Never come when this man is here. Small scoops, very mad, not friendly. I don't know why he works if he's going to be so mad and unfriendly.
It's sad because aside from him, this place is great. Mike the owner is funny and kind, Kara and Maria...
Read moreAhhhhmazing!! The freshest, most delicious gelato we've ever had!! (My girlfriend's niece spent a week in Italy last year and she says this is just as good.)
Twelve flavors of gelato. All homemade using the finest ingredients. Three or four were usually made fresh that morning.
While the flavors do change (somewhat) you'll almost always find Nutella, Espresso, Cookies & Cream, and Lemon.
Espresso is my personal favorite! My girlfriend's favorite is the strawberry cheesecake (that's a flavor of gelato, not a cheesecake).
The owner is as nice as can be. In fact, everyone that works their is exceptionally nice.
This is not a full-service restaurant. It's a dessert place.
In addition to gelato they have coffee, tea, espresso, and cappuccino. I've had the cappuccino twice. Outstanding!
Finally, they have Italian pastries - including cannoli they fill when ordered. (No soggy pastry here!)
If you're in the Deer Park area and you're looking for an exceptional dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, Caffé Italia is the place!!!
