This place is a legendary staple for local vegans, and Iāll get takeout from here at least twice a month. Iāve pretty thoroughly explored their expansive vegetarian menu over the years and I donāt think Iāve ever disliked anything. My favorite appetizers and entrees change every year, but my current go-to as of writing this is the chicken, beef, and pork in garlic sauce. The pork-fried rice is also ridiculously good. Their General Tsoās with the May Wah chicken is sometimes a much-needed break from the tofu that all other Chinese places limit us to.
That all being said, a recurring issue with Empire Wok is the inconsistent answers when it comes to distinguishing the vegan from the vegetarian items. Iāve asked a dozen or so times over the last decade and it is almost always different. Same goes for most others Iāve talked to about it. This isnāt just frustrating for puritanical ethical vegans like me, but potentially dangerous for those with allergies. A while back, I had the one owner go through the meatless menu and cross out anything that contained eggāthis included the lo mein and egg rolls, of course (these are basically never vegan, anywhere), but also the sweet and sour chicken that I spent years eating after this same man told me it was vegan. Past a certain point, and having asked the same question in multiple different ways, it canāt be blamed on a language barrier or a misinformed employee.
The food is just too good, though, and you canāt find anything like it anywhere else in the 518, so I keep going and just stick to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite places to order Chinese food. I ordered the vegan chicken for my nephew, but it that wasn't vegan. We got that straighten out so I let that go. They were very nice about it. My next order a couple months later, of egg foo young, one chicken one pork was right out greasy w/ no meat in neither order and the worst egg rolls I've ever seen. They were nice and gave me my money back. In that same order I brought chicken wings that were excellent . So I went back with a friend for the wings and Crab Rangoon. Sorry I did that.. no crab in the Rangoons , chicken looked old and wasn't very good. My guess is th cooks must have changed. I'm so disappointed because the food is now a (1 ā)take out. I'll have to go back to cooking my own Chinese food. My last conversation with them, they asked me why am I complaining about the food. Wouldn't you if you're spending thirty to forty five dollars an order for food that looks and taste awful. Unhappy š Customer friends and family won't be going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEvery restaurant has their own style of cuisine and variations within that cuisine. I take many things into consideration before giving a review. Customer Service, cleanliness, flavor, quality, quantity, visual appeal, cost and the list goes on. I placed my order online and the process was so fast and easy. When I arrived it was obvious I was not the only person who thought Chinese was a good idea. They were busy but immediately acknowledged my presence. I waiting maybe 30-45 seconds, received my food and was out the door. Empire Wok has clean fried foods, not greasy, no taste of other fried foods, crunchy and flavorful. The fried rice is fresh and cooked perfectly! Chicken was great quality and tasted delicious. Overall, I am happy with the meal I got and the price. I feel the quantity and pricing are on par with other...
