For 9yrs now my family and I rent a house on OBP. Our go to spot is schooners. We have multiple meals there a day aside from hanging at the bar and throughout the week. Last year my mom treated us to lunch and the waiter questioned his service, saying 20% tip wasn’t good enough. She was embarrassed and mortified. Last wk I rented on OB for the first time. Missing OBP we walked over for lunch. Specifically for clams and drinks. They were out,No biggie. I ordered a blk cherry white claw. Out. Again no biggie deal. I had to ask for silverware 3 times and straws multiple times, Whatever it is what it is. We ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, two kids meals And fish tacos. Two ultras and a virgin piña colada, and a virgin strawberry daiquiri. Leaving a 20% tip to a bill that was 156ish. When leaving the waitress approached, my husband, asking how her surface was and what she did wrong to deserve a tip like that. I was modified. How dare you question how much I leave you. We left a 20% tip because we were unhappy with the service multiple things we asked for were not there which was disappointing, but like I said it is a business and I get it. I am a business owner myself. I understand things happen. I don’t know if this is a way of them holding their business, but it’s wrong. I hope Paul and Meagen are aware that their servers are putting their customers on the spot and questioning their choice of tip. This is the second time it has happened in my family and I think it is wrong and it has put a bad taste in my mouth. when I go back next week not sure if I will be bringing my business back. This is a bad look on their business and I feel that they could do better. They need to understand that people come there. Renting for a week/days at a time and spend lots of money on top of it at their restaurant. They should not put any customer on the spot. A tip is left for a reason and no one should ever ask for more tip. In my business if I found out that someone ever did that and embarrassed me as a business owner, they would’ve been let go...
Read moreOk I have to say that I fell in love with Schooner Inn last year and the comment from Irwin could not be the furthest from the truth. The food is the best I have had at any beach bar. The french fries are amazing. Their fried calamari is great. Recently others at our party ordered various wraps and the lobster salad (which my father in law LOVED and he is extremely picky). Every time we have eaten there our food was fantastic much better than standard beach restaurant food. This is a family run restaurant and they encourage everyone to come and enjoy. You can boat up to the beach get out and walk right up to a table and sit down. I have always sat myself here so I find it hard to believe that they would not let anyone switch their table. It is a very relaxed beach casual place. That is what makes it amazing. They also do things for families with kids like sand toys on the beach or hermit crab races. A band plays most summer nights. It is a perfect place to have a drink or do lunch/dinner. We can not go anywhere else on the main land of long Island that even comes close to the atmosphere. We find ourselves wishing we took the ferry over to eat here again. Oh yeah another thing is it is directly next to the ferry. So convienent for those who want to just come for lunch and hang out a while. So as you can tell I love the...
Read moreSome friends and I stopped at Schooner Inn this weekend for a quick bite to eat before heading over to Flynn's. Food was nothing to speak of except for the surprise I found halfway through my lunch- a half of a roach! After 10 minutes of looking for the waitress which according to another waiter, she was on her lunch break. She returned to my table, took my plate and said she would show the manager, another 5 minutes later, she returns to tell me that the manager had stepped out and she would be able to have another plate made up for me, I along with the rest of my group had lost our appetites. My meal was comped however, the rest of my group was charged full price even though no one could even think about eating after what had just happened. On our way out, we again asked to speak with a manager at which point 2 very rude bouncers told us we needed to leave and proceeded to literally push one of my friends out when he asked again to speak to a manager. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Schooner Inn and unless you like roaches in your food and rude staff, I...
