Stone Soupe — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

My husband and I go there on lunch dates since he works at Stony Brook Hospital and I work in Tech Park. We originally heard about this deli through my job which orders there for lunch meetings and the catered lunch is always a hit. We place all the catering orders for lunch with Liz and she has been nothing but super friendly and very accommodating. The food is great because it isn't just ordinary deli sandwiches. There is something special about everything on the menu, the way it is prepared, the combinations and there is something for everyone. They have a great variety of sandwiches, soups, hot foods, and salads. I would definitely classify this place as a gourmet deli and the prices are a little bit high. But the portions are huge and everything is fresh. I recommend the Toasted almond panini, sun dried tomato pasta salad and Setauket salad. I've never had a problem with the service, only the wait is longer during lunch due to the crowd. The decor is always seasonal, welcoming and playful. The only issue I have with this place is getting in and out of the parking lot is difficult because 347 is right there on the corner of Belle Mead Road. Which never stops me from going anyway because I learned about the back road connecting the buildings from behind. Otherwise I highly recommend this place for lunch and I hope to wake up early enough to grab breakfast there some...

Update: Management followed through on their response to the original review and have begun to take measures to bring the old spark back. I appreciate them being receptive to criticism and open to working with legacy clientele to establish a new version of an old favorite. Very optimistic about the path forward, the sandwich I had today was the best I had in awhile!

New owners sullied community favorite. Less user-friendly website, fewer specials, wildly inconsistent pricing on custom sandwich orders. Plenty of deficits but no actual improvements to justify increased costs, all superficial. The focus seems to be on “shiny and new” that no-one asked for instead of maintaining established community relations. Really upsetting for someone who once ate there regularly and used to send clients over there while they waited for test results. Literally the only saving grace is that some of the prior staff are still there - very grateful to those girls for keeping that...

Highly disappointed today. Ordered 3 BLT at 11:50am for lunch, was told might take a little bit, I say ok. When I ask the price I was told, couldn't give me an exact price since bacon is expensive, could be $10.50 for each sandwich, again I agree. At 1:00, I call to check where the sandwiches are, I am told by the same one who took my order they arenout for delivery. At 1:30, my coworker calls. Same one tells her the owner herself is delivering them...we are across the street from them. At 2:30, I once again called to inform them we did not get the sandwiches, at which time I am told they never had an order for them and they are not busy at the moment would I still like them...UMMMM no. The whole office was waiting to see if they would do the honorable thing and just deliver at no charge since our practice does have an account with them and orders frequently...got nothing. Will NOT give them another chance, not the first time disappointed by them, but will...
