So today was Father's Day, and I told my girlfriend that we should bring our daughter, and my mother to farmer boy for breakfast. My mother would bring me here as a child, and it was always amazing to hear "were going to farmer boy!" LOVED this place. It had a special place in my heart. Now as an adult, I've visited the establishment twice and both were disappointing.
I had what was hands down my worse Father's Day breakfast yet, and dining issue. So we get there all excited(and hoping this experience is better than my last one, which I did not feel disgusted enough to write a review about, but it was still upsetting), we got this God awful table in the middle of everything, just to get bumped by staff members left and right. wWe ordered a good amount of food between the 4 of us. When the food came out, we noticed no cheese on scrambled eggs, so we asked our waitress(who seemed very careless about her occupation) if they could go back and get some cheese put on it. She came out almost instantly with that plate, but this time it had 2 soggy and cold pieces of cheese on the eggs. As she walked away, i asked her if we could have salt and pepper. I had to get very loud to try and get her attention. And she continued to walk away as i continued to yell "excuse me"(I also noticed the soggy cheese on my mothers eggs at this time so I was disgusted). So we waited a few minutes after talking about what to do...and we ALSO NOTICED that none of us got our meats. We ordered bacon for 2 of the plates, sausage for one and side orders of bacon and corn beef hash. My mother stood up and locked eyes with the waitress, and said "excuse me" and the lady ignored my mother, to go clean an empty table.
So as I'm about to walk out, my mother choose to get someone else's attention, and she grabbed the owner I believe. But it was too late. A child hood memory completely wasted on this place. I wish I asked for my waitress' name. My mother felt disrespected and ignored by this waitress. She was so emotionless. Do what you want with this information. I believe there are much better cafes in the 518/area. I'm so disappointed. You are lucky I had my mother and daughter there. The level of disrespect was...
Read moreMy husband and I went out exploring for some wholesome food. We recently relocated to the area from another locale whose staple is diners. There are delicious diners by us, one of which even makes their own yogurt, but Farmer Boy is now our FAVORITE diner. We haven't even ventured into breakfast here. We've ordered pumpkin ravioli in a sage-butter sauce (to die for!), pork chops with apples and sage-butter (see previous interjection), stuffed peppers (see previous interjection), cheese quesadillas, clam chowder, and burgers. I am a phenomenal cook and can tell you that everything is made from scratch here. We really received more than we expected from a diner, and were/are able to now frequent our favorite spot because of the reasonable prices. Service for us was always expedient and attentive. Even though we have to drive a little out of the way to get to the diner, it is well worth it. Until we finish settling in to use the kitchen, stove and all, we will have to eat out frequently, and Farmer Boy is top notch.
Chris, since you enjoy honest critiques, I believe the salsa is canned, but it is still tasty. I grew up where clam chowder is a staple, so there could be more clams and little thicker/flavorful cream base. Bacon, clam juice, shallots, thyme? Just some thoughts for consideration.
Please give your patrons some history on the cooks here - I'm curious because the dishes are just SO amazing! They (?) are so talented, I would love to cook with them and pick their brain sometime. THANK YOU for serving your patrons QUALITY food! Quality never goes unnoticed. Yum, yum in...
Read moreOne of my favorite diners when I am in Albany-- a little to far for me on the regular since I don't live in Albany county. I have been there a few times and I have always gotten breakfast. My food has always come out hot and delicious. I have no experience with their dinners or lunch since I have never gotten those meals here. I ordered a TO GO order recently since I work near Farmer Boy. My lunch (Fast Traveler egg sandwich) was nicely packaged. It came with ketchup, silverware, napkins, salt packets and everything else I needed in a tiny bag so it didn’t get separated inside my take away bag. I ordered seasonal berries and they were warm berries like a compote consistency. I didn’t eat them with my meal since they were too sweet for me. I put them in my work fridge and took them home with me. I will make pancakes tomorrow for breakfast and put them on top. I didn’t ask about the berries so it was entirely my fault- I didn’t know they would be that sweet. Overall I have always had great service, delicious food, and a nice experience there. It is also cheaper than other diners nearby so even when I go with like 6 or 8 people, our...
