Ellie May’s Diner — Restaurant in Town of De Witt

If you're looking for a local diner with great food and service- this is the spot! It was a first time for us today, so when we walked in and saw that it was a bar, we were confused! There were about 10 people sitting there and they kindly, and quickly, pointed us out the door and to the right to another door that hosted our destination :) although in that moment, we kinda wanted to abandon our solid breakfast plans for a more liquid one.... but we were on a mission. Out of hunger, we decided to stop at the first place we saw and this was it, so we had to continue forth. And boy am I glad we did because the banana pancakes were the best I've had in years! Ordered full frittata and pancakes. Frittata was not scrambled but more like mush/mashed with the exception of a few sliced round potatoes that were mostly entact. Seriously could not tell what was eggs and could not taste them at all. Pancakes were odd tasting and not fluffy but more flat and definitely over cooked. We figured the taste was probably transferred from the griddle. The syrup resembled water in consistency but it didn’t really matter because we didn’t really eat much of them or the frittata. We picked at what was edible leaving most behind. Waitress asked if we wanted box to take it home. I said no thank you - I was not a fan of any of it. Had to leave 1 star, since 0 is not an option. It's a hopping place in the morning so I'm sure the food is good. We never got to that part.

First time in this place, so I didn't know we had to sit ourselves. 2 servers passed us but didn't tell us the ' policy '. Another patron let us know we had to sit ourselves. We sat for close to 10 minutes and once again, no acknowledgement from serve staff who were around us. Not even a menu on the table.

I understand that there is a ' labor shortage ', but that doesn't mean our presence can be acknowledged by a smile and " I'll be right with you". Before actions come attitude.
