My feelings have never been so hurt, and I've never been so embarrassed in public. I was staying across the street at East Hampton House for a work trip and thought this place looked cute, so I walked in. I ordered a couple of pastries, a coffee, and a bacon, egg & cheese, $45. No problem, it's the Hamptons.
There appeared to be a clear restaurant section, but also a large communal table in the front, near where you order. Tons of people were sitting there, so I sat and started eating. A woman -- older, white, blonde, came up and said loudly, "Excuse me, this is not where you should be sitting. You ordered to-go, which means you cannot eat here. We wouldn't have wasted all this plastic if we knew you were staying."
I was stunned. I didn't say a word. Everyone around us looked just as shocked. Several people sitting at the table said, "That was so rude," and invited me to scoot in and sit with them as part of their group, which was incredibly kind, but by then I was already shaken.
I've truly never been treated like that in my life. I felt publicly scolded and humiliated over... eating a sandwich at a communal table after spending $45. The table was in the main ordering area ,not clearly marked or roped off ,and it absolutely looked like a spot anyone could sit.
I don't know if this happened because I'm a gay, ethnic male, I want to give the benefit of the doubt ,but the way I was singled out felt pointed. Whatever the reason, it was despicable.
Here's the kicker: I work for a major brand in Amagansett that frequently uses this establishment for events and I'll be making sure my colleagues know exactly what...
Read moreWe came for breakfast and while the food was average, there seems to be a common theme on the service in these reviews. We dined in and after receiving our food, we still hadn’t received our coffee order. We were almost finished with our food and since the coffee still hadn’t come, we asked the server if they could bring it in a to-go cup so we wouldn’t have to finish it at the table. He said fine, and all was good.
Fast forward another 10 minutes and we still hadn’t received the coffee, so I went to the counter to check on it. I spoke to someone who told me that we placed our order as a takeout order and they put our coffee at the takeout window. That wasn’t correct, we were dining in and simply asked for the drink in a to-go container since we were almost finished with our food. It would have been nice if we were told that it would be sitting there. When I went to get it at the window, the same woman who I spoke to earlier told me “I can’t have you bring a plastic cup to the tables” and that we would have to leave. I guess they wouldn’t serve it to us at the table because it was in a plastic cup? They seem to care more about aesthetics than their food and customer service.
It didn’t seem to be only us having issues as well. The table next to us was also complaining that they took their food away (that they were still eating) when one of them went to the bathroom. If you want better food and better service, definitely go to Luigi’s or...
Read moreUpdate after owner's reply: We were group of 4 people, not 20 people. You may mistake us with other mistreated customers. I am fully aware of food price and environment in Hampton, and I have visited other restaurants in the area. You definitely have Hampton attitude, but food and service is not up to standard.
It was nightmare customer service we have experienced. They were busy when we arrived. The server at the door told us to go inside register and order for dine in. While we were walking in, an older lady with glasses (manager/owner ?) yelled at us and told us to go back outside and wait on the other line. She may had a bad day, but she was definitely nasty and full of attitude. It finally sorted it out after she talked to server at the door. I felt bad for the server after hearing their conversation, she yelled at the server for entire two minutes in front of a big crowd.
After we got the food, it was a dispointment. Portion was small for both food and drink, definitely over price for what they charge. The bread for roasted beef sandwiches was very tough, my teeth hurt so much that I can't finish the other half.
I hope the management can see this and improve customer service. Nobody deserves what we...
