Ok so we were walk ins on a Thursday night getting on to the labor day weekend . We were greeted by a nice fellow that asked if we had reservations, naturally I replied no , he told us that there was a big party expected in a little while but could seat us out near the entrance near the bar . Ok that was fine the table for 2 was adequate and comfortable . The menu is on point , no fluff , not to small not to big either . Offerings were pleasing. Wife has the arugula salad and I had the fried calamari. Both were excellent if you like fried calamari this is for you served nice and hot well fried yet very tender and fresh with a nice little spicy sauce that was really excellent. my wife and I had the same dish , not so simple and cliché as you would think, the spaghetti with the side of meatballs. They arrived super hot. The spaghetti comes with the meatballs tucked along the bowl with piping hot spaghetti and a generous dollop of creamy ricotta. The meatballs are a very good size and are very tender yet firm at the same time if that makes sense, another word perfect ! The flavor and texture was very good. They must be putting veal in those meatballs. They were extremely delicious. the spaghetti and the sauce itself was excellent!! Kudos for serving piping hot food that doesn’t sit and die at the pass . My only complaint here was as much as I tried to stall the waitress into not ordering our entrées until our appetizers were finished resulted in me, ordering the entrées and having them arrive slightly before we were finished with our appetizers , please let us finish our and salad and give us a 5 to 10 minute break minimum, especially when we are ordering premium drinks at 22 bucks a pop. The offer to have the main courses sit back in the kitchen is not an option at least for me slow it down and just a trifle bit. It wasn’t that busy in the restaurant as of yet. All in this place is really really good and I would highly recommend it.
So I’m adding a breakfast review as well , would have liked to give a new separate review but Google will not let me . We came back for dinner a second time since my first review. Again !!! Food was excellent as was the service. I made reservations prior this time !!! It you’re a chicken cutlet parm fan , you’re going to love it . But getting to breakfast, wife and I came in for breakfast instead of going to the other two guys down town for a change , and a nice change it was !!! We had eggs and bacon, a ham omelet with real slice ham steak , (not deli ham) , toast , rye and wheat , coffee which was excellent and hot . We also shared an order of pancakes and they were very very good , service was also very good and we didn’t have to beg for anything in the way of coffee refills, extra butter ETC. another nice feature was not having to fight our way downtown and wait online for an hour for our number to come up. So if you want all the goodness without the hassle I would recommend you come to this place...
Read moreFood: 100, service, if I am being generous a 2.... first or all, Montauk Manor is a lovely hotel. You can see where they have Patched up bathrooms etc. to modernize the hotel, but over all, a truly lovely space, beautiful building, an excellent place to stay. As hotel guest we had wonderful experience after wonderful experience... until we Decided to pop into breakfast on Sunday 7/21. At 8:30 am three young men were Working and the restaurant was empty. We joked how everyone else must have had a more fun Saturday night than us, because we were the only ones who were there.
Despite three waiters, any service to our table was akin to some kind of miracle... they eventually took our order, eventually brought us coffee, but had to ask three times for our milk, our third time asking we literally just called called/yelled across the room to them, because they seemed so disinterested who was in this restaurant.
I get this is a stop over, basic summer college Job for these kids, but this is a nice hotel. The kitchen staff was clearly Hustling to bring out delicious food.
It is beyond annoying to have to ask for coffee refills, water (which was never brought), to have the extra place settings cleared, which they NEvER did, this kid iust shoved two place settings to the corner of our table, so bizarre and bad! We had to ask for syrup when our son order pancakes... it just went on and on how stupid these kids were...
Around 9:30 , the restaurant actually got a little busy, people waiting for these three young men to set up a table outside and we saw this party get so frustrated, they seated themselves inside, because a simple place setting seemed above what these boys were willing to do for hotel guests.
If these three kids don't want to serve people a nice breakfast experience, why are they working here? The food is delicious, it would seriously be better to order off an iPad and...
Read moreWe came here for two mornings of our anniversary weekend away at the manor. The restaurant ambiance is very nice. They definitely need to work out some service issues. The first morning we were here was less crowded, second morning there were more people, and it took a very long time for us to be able to order food. We had to go up to the bar to ask for butter, syrup, and ketchup. My husband had to go fill up my water himself at the bar once, and I had to bring it back up. My husband ordered two entrees, eggs and pancakes. They forgot his eggs and had to send back his pancakes, because they were underdone. I was almost done with my omelette by the time he got his pancakes and he got his eggs as I was finishing the last bite. I will say that I had the omelette both mornings which was very good, and I enjoyed the home fries. French toast was eh (ordered that on the first breakfast). Pancakes were just ok, tasted like Krusteaz. Servers were sort of wandering around like they didn’t know who to serve or where to go. The manager had just come in to help with the food and was serving to the wrong tables. The first morning, we also overhead a different manager saying that the muffins should be covered, not just sitting on a plate out in the open. They were still sitting there uncovered the next morning. The manager ended up comping our bill and seemed very apologetic. Convenient breakfast, because we stayed at the manor, and it was...
