Over my many years I have eaten many a serving of corned beef hash in many places. I have not had one better than I enjoyed today at my first visit ever to Café Mio.
It is a local farm-to-table place focused on presenting very good, fresh food. They do it quite well.
We tried Café Mio today as I have heard positive things about it. I envisioned the food being good but commensurate with these type places I was not expecting generous portions of food. I was half correct -The food is great but, portions quite large; and for me to say that, they must be.
I ordered the eggs and hash; it is served in a large bowl filled with corned beef hash with two perfectly cooked eggs on top along with two generous sized slices of homemade bread. Jeanmarie had a grilled catfish sandwich that she raved about as well.
One thing I really liked, coffee is served in large almost bowl-sized coffee mugs. Sometimes in diners I ask for coffee in to-go cups as when I need a refill the waitress is usually texting rather than being attentive to my caffeine needs. Having the coffee in large mugs was refreshing. And, the coffee was exceptional.
Service was very good with a personal attitude, we did not wait for anything but did not feel over watched.
I will return and next I will try the Banana Bacon French Toast.
I have in the past spent time thinking about selecting stars for rating restaurants...I think sometimes Yelp (like DWTS) needs 1/2 stars ...but in this case I didn't hesitate, I clicked 5 Stars...
Read moreI don’t typically post reviews, but felt I need to get the word out. Today was a particularly busy day and our wait was about 45 min (though we were told less). Finally we were offered seating at the bar because the hostess said the wait for a table could be longer. The very next couple was given the table 😡. Sitting at the bar proved very enlightening though. I ordered the special coffee drink, a Hazelnut Latte, extra hot. It arrived neither hot nor hazelnut. We watched horrified as the cooks touched every omelette, fried egg, French fry and the like with their bare hands….completely unnecessarily (ever heard of tongs or a spatula?!?!?!?!). The only cook with a glove on was scooping salad. However, after waiting to eat for over an hr, we were starving and ready to take our chances….BIG mistake! My husband’s ham & cheese omelette came burned….the cook thought himself clever as he flipped the burned side to the inside of the omelette, but the first bite revealed everything….not at all worth the $17+ price tag. My dish, The Mio Breakfast, arrived presentable, but missing dressing for the greens. The only bright spot in our experience was the cheerful server. We’re putting Cafe Mio on our...
Read moreBeen here a few times and only really enjoyed it once.
the French toast is delicious. no complaints. would eat again.
tofu scramble is not so good. large wet chunks of mushy tofu. not sure if they forgot to press out the water before cooking or what, but it was a soggy mess. in my opinion the tofu scramble should actually be scrambled. also it's served with a side salad... I love salad but who wants salad at breakfast. give me home fries.
I'm 50/50 on the apple, walnut, and gorgonzola salad. the server asked if I wanted to add chicken and I said sure why not. should have said no bc it was the tiniest portion of chicken and it was very dry. it also took the price of my salad from $12 to $17. maybe that's on me because I didn't ask. the salad itself was okay, not really that much apple. the dressing was just a basic vinegrette but it was good.
overall, I think this place is a little pretentious. prices are too high compared to the quality. I work nearby, and this place isn't off the table for lunch, but I will probably stick to the French toast if I have a sweet tooth that day. I prefer other places for lunch like Julian's or...
