Read moreTried to catch a nostalgic vibe and a quick meal at Tony’s Bayview Drive In tonight. What I got was a massive case of disappointment. Tony’s was an almost daily go to for a fast lunch back when I worked in the area. Sadly he passed years ago and today’s version looks and operates nothing like the business that still bears his name.
The cashier and the front and back cooks looked like they all hated their jobs. No greeting from the cashier, sullen looks on the faces of the cooks. This place used to have a friendly vibe when you walked in. In was not uncommon to have Tony engage you in conversation and his staff always looked like they enjoyed what they were doing.
As for the food, I ordered an Italian Sausage with peppers and onions , my wife a fish sandwich. The sausage as it turned out was a patty instead of link. Grilled over charcoal the patty looked and tasted more like a hamburger than Italian Sausage. No Fennel, garlic, oregano, Italian flakes to be found. The peppers and onions were just as bland.
The fish sandwich looked a lot like a McDonalds Fish Filet - frozen, square and slightly over deep fried, the sandwich was nothing to write home about.
I get it, nothing lasts for ever, over time owners change but the employees can make a difference. A smile, a “thank you for your business”are just as important as the food you serve.
No one who worked there today gave me a reason to ever go back. Have some respect for the namesake who built...
Read moreHad a lot of great memories coming here as a kid. Decided to extend the invite to the next generation of my family so I stopped in today with my son and my mother at 630pm to finally have him experience the magic for the first time. We were so excited. Line was out the door, this was fine, was ready to wait. But upon entering, the lady at the counter barked at me that they are closed when clearly their sign said open til 8pm. 🙃 I brought this counterpoint to their attention to which they then scoff that they were outta food. Are you kidding me? This business has been here for decades and you can't gauge how much food you could sell on a beautiful day? If you're outta food on the first nice day of the year, who would waste their time ever coming back the rest of the season? I know I won't. If the place is closed for the night, switch your signage outside to state that you can't run your business anymore cuz all you did was waste my family's time and the people that were waiting patiently behind us. Like I said, I won't waste my time driving through the pothole farm parking lot they got to look at some sad run down go kart track I used to enjoy back when the owners cared about...
