We met with another couple there. Our friends picked this place and we hadn't tried it yet, so we met them for dinner and drinks. My husband and I arrived first and started on the first floor. After inquiring about the menu, we were informed the first-floor bar's menu had " bar food items such as pizza and burgers, etc" The second-floor had more of a dinner menu with entrees. Once our friends arrived we headed to the second d floor. We were seated fairly quickly and the view was fantastic. Second-floor restaurant and bar are brighter and very nice. We all ordered additional drinks and proceeded to order dinner. I had filet mignon, my husband's oeder wings and a burger, the other couple of stuffed peppers, a seafood entree, and salads. The food was delicious and our server was attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. This is when everything went south. Our server brought our bill and set it down stating" We are starting to get busy so.." and set the bill down. We didn't ask for the bill yet and planned on having more to drink and maybe dessert. When he brought the bill we changed our mind on dessert. We thought maybe his shift was ending and wanted his tip before we left. The bill would be well over 300 so at 20 % at the least, his tip would be good. We asked if we could order another round, and he said" Sure" and brought the round, and as soon as he walked away the hostess came over and said" Just so you know we have reservations for this table" What?! Why would our server take another order of drinks if there were reservations for the table? We were not there that long but being pushed out the door is unacceptable. Shame because the atmosphere is lovely but that was rude. I spoke with the hostess about it but our friends felt so uncomfortable they left the rest of their drinks. You just don't treat customers like this. Not sure we...
Read moreWe were out with friends using our WNY Beer Trail Passes and stopped in at Johnson's Landing, as we had never been there and they were in the "passport" book. It is a nice property right across the street from Lake Erie just south of Buffalo.
The property is quite large, boasting over 12,000 sq. ft. with a roof top patio bar. The roof top bar was closed because it was only February (cold). But we are anxious to check it out when the weather breaks. There are not enough quality places on or near the waterfront. This is a full service 3 story restaurant but also a brewery.
We settled on the second level at the bar for our visit. The bartenders were truly great and welcoming. Plenty of options to choose from. The décor is trendy and bright. The floor to ceiling windows offer great views of the lake. The food that went by looked tasty and hopefully our next visit will allow us to spend more time to try it out.
The owner (Bob Johnson) also owns the area staple Pegs Place diner, so they know a thing or two about good food and quality service. Definitely a spot to check out if you haven't been!
UPDATE. 2nd visit was as good as the food but we ate there this time. Great service and food. The burger was delish. The Reuben was fantastic
UPDATE. 3rd visit for lunch was good, not great. The burger was ordered pink, but was well done. But it was still tasty.
UPDATE: 4th visit for dinner was good again. Stressed I wanted the burger medium rare (pink) and it came out well done again. This time I had to send it back and the returned burger was cooked perfect. They just need better attention to detail in the kitchen. The...
Read moreThis review has two parts. The first time we went was opening weekend. We absolutely loved it and have been telling everyone we know that they need to try it. We went out of our way to message the restaurant directly to go on and on about how amazing they did. One of our favorite things about it was seeing they were dog friendly on the patio. Multiple tables were enjoying their drinks with their furry friends next to them. Today we stopped in mid day between lunch and dinner. Before we even got to the door an employee rudely came out and told us off that they’re not dog friendly. We tried to respond and she was eager to cut us off and say only if they’re certified service dogs (which I understand if you’re not dog friendly you need to enforce those rules. Nothing wrong with not being dog friendly) we then said to her that opening weekend there was multiple dogs on the patio when we were here. She said immediately “that was the owners dog” well if there was one I would believe that but there was multiple tables with dogs. I’m also not sure why the owner would bring their own dog in during their busiest weekend of their restaurants existence when I’m pretty sure the owner would have had other things to worry about. Also, if you’re the owner and you don’t want people bringing dogs, why would you bring your own? It doesn’t really make sense to us. Bummed about our experience there today as it was one of our favorite spots, but I don’t think we will be returning after our encounter with this employee. There’s better ways to handle situations and we certainly don’t love an owner that doesn’t follow their...
