I'm admittedly grading on a bit of a curve given the location, but I've been very pleased the two times I've ordered from here. There are a TON of pizza places in the area, but I'm finding it's best to look at some of the secondary menu offerings. Case in point, the heros/sandwiches at Mr. Crispy's are the selling point - they dominate the menu compared to the pizza options, and they offer half-sizes, which is perfect for me. (Full disclosure - I have not had the pizza but based solely on superficial optics, it does not look like my jam.)
I stopped by most recently this past week for lunch. Mr. Crispy's (like almost every establishment within a 10-mile radius) is located in a strip mall with some other lunchtime spots as well. I ordered from here a few months ago with a co-worker, who didn't get what she asked for, but said that they took down her name if I wanted to reference it for a free meal. Classy when places do that. The girl behind the counter was very friendly, so I figured I'd at least ask about that since it seemed a bit odd that they'd keep track of free meals just by jotting down the customer name in lieu of, say, providing a coupon or something. They literally had a notebook by the counter with all of the names, which cracked me up. I chose to pay for my own meal rather than seriously pursue that, but hey - it's a system.
I ordered the half-hero size chicken parm ($5.75). As mentioned, perfect portion and a very competitive price point for what you're getting. I'm not a huge connoisseur of subs/heros since they tend to be pretty heavy, so the only direct comp I have is a place in Jersey City called Milano's, which is well regarded for these types of sandwiches. Honestly though? I prefer this one. Milano's has super fresh, practically dripping mozzy on theirs (the one obvious upside), but I really love that Mr. Crispy's toasts the bread pretty hardcore before serving. Gives it a nice crunch/slight char, the only downside being that every bite ends up like a Nature Valley bar, with crumbs cascading down in front of you. Napkins should be handy. I also like that the chicken is kind of shredded, not one or two hunks; that's certainly personal preference though. The cheese IS a little heavy/thick for me, but it does end up evening out with the decent portion size, and I like that the sauce is very much a subtle secondary player here.
The restaurant itself is pretty non-descript - it looks like every other blue collar, by the slice pizza place - but it offers seating with a big window in the front if you want to gaze out at the parking lot while you munch (I chose to catch up on the breaking news on the NY Post website on my phone). The service is also top-notch. Not only was the counterperson/server friendly, but it took less than five minutes to get my sandwich, and she urged me to get the lunch special, which was the same exact price but included a soda/bag of chips - they easily could have saved the minimal inventory. Very pleasant little spot, and I will be...
Read moreI called and ordered a pizza for pickup today and the lady on the phone says ok. I ask her how long before it's ready and she says about 15-20 minutes. I said ok thank you, goodbye. I go to there about 25 minutes later and tell them I'm there to pick up the pizza I ordered and the lady tells me that they never put in my order because they didn't have a phone number. You have got to be kidding me! All pizza places have caller ID! That is a BS excuse! They lied to my face because they didn't want to admit that they forgot to put in the order. I hate when people make up lies to cover themselves! So they are trying to tell me just because the girl didn't do her job and get a number they didn't make my pizza? That's a joke and it's ridiculous and no one in the right mind would believe that! They need to stop hiring incompetent people to answer the phones and get people who are actually going to do their job and work! That was a horrible experience! So now everyone is hungry and I have to wait even longer to get food elsewhere just because somebody forgot to put in my order and then lied to me about it saying that they didn't have my number. EVERYWHERE HAS CALLER ID! NOBODY BELIEVES THAT LIE! RIDICULOUS!!!! NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT HAVE MY PIZZA BUT THEY INSULTED MY...
Read moreGreat food but this was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, so respectfully this will be my last time ever going to Mr. Crispy’s. It’s unfortunate how staff can ruin someone’s business. There was no greeting upon entry. I called in my order and as I’m waiting for an employee to make eye contact for assistance, it’s evident that they are avoiding me. It’s 7:30 PM on a Wednesday evening. All business’ get busy but at this time, it wasn’t. There is one nasty customer at the counter acting like other customers shouldn’t be standing near her. Finally, a male employee asked if I’m being helped and I said no. He didn't respond so I said “I called in”, still no response. I’m not sure if he heard me, no response is a poor way to communicate to a customer. He didn’t ask my name or what I ordered or if it was ready or not. The other female behind the counter brings my food and rings it up. Both staff members acted like it was such a bother. This service was so terrible for something as simple as a take out order. I pay for the food, I say thank you, and again no manners or response from either employees. I’ve been in the restaurant business as a bartender for over 2 years. This service was so poor...
